Updating File locations
« on: August 15, 2005, 10:33:14 am »

Hi,

I want to update the file location of all my music from a physical disk to a share, so from M:\Music to \\Server\Music. Is there anyway to do this on-mass? The easiest way would be to do a search and replace in 'field (filename).jmd' but I don't think this is possible.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

oooohhh!!! you were so close!!!

How about using the built in find/replace tool?

Select all the files that need updating, right-click, library tools > find/relace

deselect all, select filename (path), find M:\ replace with \\server\

-marko.

If \\server\ is mapped to the drive letter M: remove the mapping first or change temporally the base folder name outside MC. Otherwise MC will try to move the files. Because MC cannot find the files it will show a warning, but afterwards it will find the files from the new path. Make a library backup before starting.

good point Alex, I assumed the files had been moved externally and the library was full of "missing file" icons.

always a bad thing that, assumption!
