Restoring an MC10 License from a file
« on: May 20, 2005, 12:33:56 pm »

Hi, I have MC10 and have backed up the licencse file to disk. The systen that i have MC10 installed on has had Wiindows re-installed a few times in the last month or so (upgrades & hard drive problems). Each time i re-installed MC10 and attempted to restore the license code, the program says that the license file has expired, so I restored it from the Internet. Each time I restore from the Internet, I back the license file to disk (both harddrive & usb key). Still, even using the latest copy of the license file MC10 says the file has expired. I was wondering what the purpose of backing up the license file is, when MC10 can't reinstall it, or am I missing a step in the backup/restore process? Restoring from the Intenet isn't as big deal, but I think I might only have 1 or 2 restores remaining. Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

The restore key is only good for 14 days, you need to go to the restore page and get a new restore key if it is older than 14 days.

Your "license" is kept in your registry. The restore key code "unlocks" your license. Saving the key code allows you to do mutiple installations over a two week period without having to use another "restore" (of which you have 10 per year). This J River's security protocol.

I recently had to reinstall Windows XP (and reformat my Hard Drive in the process) and am now trying to get Media Center back up and running.  WHen I try to activate the restire key, I get the error "Error restoring Media Center License - Error Unknown."  I am running a current version of XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (with all the recommended upgrades from Microsoft), Norton AntiVirus and Internet Security (again current) and AdAware from Lavasoft.

Any suggestions on how to get re-registered?

Are you using I.E. as your browser?  It might help if you post your system info (MC Help>System Info).

Have you changed your email address from the one you originally purchased MC with? If you have changed email and no longer have access to the old one, you'll have to post in a new topic and request an address change.

Turn off any pop-up blockers, Zone Alarm (or similar) while restoring.
