New compression algorithm for the Server Library
« on: February 14, 2006, 04:13:12 pm »

Hi!

Actually, MC is using ZIP Compression for transferring the library database from a server to a client.

On my server, this ZIP is already 5.5 MB in size, so transfer takes a lot of time.

I tried the free available 7-zip compression and was rather impressed, the filesize dropped to 1.8, that is only 33% of ZIP file.

7zip is an open-source algorithm, so I guess it would be legal to use it in MC, no?

Just wanted to ask if it is possible and see how many users think that this would be a nice feature for 11.2 or 12.0?

Thanks for attention

Sorry, but this won't be changed.
