Media Center 11.1.35 Alpha
« on: October 14, 2005, 07:22:56 pm »

  • This is a very early alpha of 11.1.
  • There aren't a lot of new features in it yet.
  • It will work with the same MC11 license that 11.0 uses.
  • As always, use at your own risk, and don't make it your first download of MC.

As always, please post ONLY BUGS here -- anything requiring discussion should go in a new thread.  Posts may be deleted or moved.

Media Center 11.1 ALPHA is now available.  PRICES for MC11.0 and 11.1 are here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311

The public release version of Media Center 11.0 is available here:
http://www.jrmediacenter.com/download.html (recommended for new users)

This latest build of MC11.1 ALPHA is here:
http://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter111035.exe

MC 11.1.35 (10/14/05)

1. Changed: Play count, rating, etc. is synced back from a handheld as soon as "Check Synchronization" is clicked so that an accurate picture of what needs to be sent can be presented.
2. NEW: iPod shuffle support. Current support requires that a cleanly formatted Shuffle (using iPod Updater)has been run with iTunes one time prior to running with MC. After running with MC, iTunes will need to rewrite the Shuffle database.  AAC and Audible content performance not fully tested.
3. Changed: Reworked installation system finalizer to hopefully fix hangs after installing plugins reported by some users.
4. Changed: Revised shutdown system to fix rare cases where the process could hang at the tail of shutdown.
5. Changed: Switched how the installer detects a running process of Media Center so it won't accidently run with a dead process lingering.
6. Fixed: In-place editing in list controls was not working properly.
7. Fixed: On-the-fly conversion to handhelds was not always working as expected.
8. Changed: Improved list messaging during handheld uploads. (show progress bars, etc.)
9. Changed: "Sync Now" button changes to "Cancel Sync" button in a handheld view header when a transfer is in progress.

MC 11.1.34 (10/13/05)

1. Changed: HDTV's Dynamic Decimation option is no longer selected by default.
2. Changed: Reworked handheld Action Window sync system.
3. Fixed: Several handheld bugs.

MC 11.1.31 (10/6/05)

1. Fixed: Installer could fail to install newer required shared libraries on some systems.

MC 11.1.30 (10/5/05)

1. Fixed: Switching modes (Mini, Standard, etc.) could cause a crash in some cases.
2. Changed: The UPnP Server now requires no configuration of IP address even on multi-homed machines.
3. Changed: Switched display back to Playing Now.
4. Changed: Image of playing file loaded in a background thread. (improves performance with http:// images)
5. NEW: Added "Image" Action Window that tracks the playing file.

it's lookin good..... only a few things i have noticed since just downloading it today.  first of all: the new transfer method is great, but for some reasons on my nomad jukebox zen xtra, it doesn't put the playlists on the device anymore (i have no idea what would cause this).  secondly, playback skips much more often in this release.

anyways, like i said, it's looking good so far, but there are a few bugs cropping up!

thanks and good luck!

2 buggies:

1. I'm sure the team knows this one, that G-Force & Whitecap crashes this version.

2. When using the detatched display, after the display window is returned to the main program, the second taskbar button still stays shown untill the program is closed and restarted. This has been around for a long while.

Thanks for the hard work  ;D

From the 11.1.31 thread:

[/url]Have these Windows registry items changed?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 11\Properties
-  View Settings - Column Presets  and
-  View Settings - Sorting Presets

I noticed that the previously saved presets don't work anymore.

Also, the playlist format seems to be changed: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=29832.0.

Are the versions incompatible? In that case they are not so close cousins (contrary to what I read before). It would be better to separate the registry entries and make it possible to install both versions. Otherwise it will be difficult for many of us to try the alpha versions and give feedback.

Currently I have MC11.1 installed on my laptop where the possible problems don't matter much, but a better test environment would be my main MC rig, my HTPC. However, a reconfigure session every time I need to reinstall the v.11.0 would be too much for me.
