MC10 & iPod Mini Combo Cause Crash
« on: October 16, 2005, 05:49:38 pm »

Hi,

My girlfriend has an iPod mini (blue if you must know).

iTunes is a dog. I hate it. She hates it. Im converting her to Media Center usage. MC10 is intalled on her PC from some months ago.

Have gotten MC to "see" the iPod. It appears in the tree on the left under "My Computer". Under this we see Calendars, Contacts, Notes.

I explain all this because we also see it listed as simply "F" under Drives and Devices.

Clicking on F gets us, on occasion, "Your iPod is not initialized for Media Center. Please right click on your drive letter and select "Initialize"."

When I click OK to this I see "Albums", "Artists", "Genres" and "Playlists" as I would expect under F: in the tree. However, clicking on "Albums" itself results in the beautiful error: "Media Core has detected a problem and needs to close."

Right clicking on "F:" also ends in a crash. I do so to attempt to hit "Initialize" but never get to see the context menu.

Option to inform M$ about the problem? I look at additional details. Get this:

AppName: media jukebox.exe    AppVer: 10.0.173.0    ModName: hh_portable.dll
ModVer: 1.0.0.0    Offset: 00053010

Anyone any clue for how I might rectify this momma?

Hi,

My girlfriend has an iPod mini (blue if you must know).
MC11 has better support for iPod.  MC11.1 still better, but may not be as stable.

The iPod should show up when you click on the Action Window and then Handheld.

Reading other posts on this may also help.

Thank you for that. I downloaded MC11, same thing happened.

Then connected iPod Mini to my Media Center (MC11), which connects to my own iPod (non-mini) without problem. On connecting the Mini to my Media Center, the Media Center crashed. Same difficulty as other machine, other instance of Media Center.

Guess that means it's an iPod problem, not an MC problem, and strictly speaking outside the bounds of this forum - but would anyone have any idea why this is happening per chance?

Try this.  From IE, find the itunesdb file on the iPod and rename it.

Also see the Quick Start thread here for more ideas.
