My new Plextor PX712a DVD+/-RW won't burn audio CD's!!! My Sony DRU510A worked fine with MC11.  But the Plextor, which works fine with everything else, including MP3/data burns, takes about an hour to run and the CD isn't playable (it LOOKS like there are 20 tracks but each one is just silence).

VERY disappointing!  Up to MediaCenter110316.exe but still the same thing - I have generated a half-dozen coasters!  Test mode is similarly slow, but it tells me it completes successfully.  Not!

Is there a Plextor patch, I rely heavily on MC for my mp3 needs!

sometimes other burning software have been known to cause problems.

this maybe no matter what drive type.

But this same configuration worked with the same version of MC11 (MediaCenter110299.exe) and the Sony drive!

This is clearly specific to my new Plextor drive.

I do run a combination of Nero and Roxio Easy CD Maker 7, but until now have had no problems.

I have exchanged the Plextor for a new one, same result.  But when I put my Sony back in, it works fine.

Will PlexTools or Nero write an audio CD to the drive?

Yes, anything else does at the rated CD-R speed (48x), Nero, Easy CD Creator, even Windows Media Player!

Go to CD Writer, And Click On Detect

See If That Maybe Updates The List For The New Writer

(If you have Not Already Done So).

Yes I've done that, but it's shown the right name for my drive from the beginning.

I've tried uninstalling Plextools

So it's starting to sound like I'm screwed.

I seem to remember way back in the MC 9.x days there was a similar problem with some writer and the solution was to uninstall Nero and other writing software.

Don't give up so easily, the J river guys haven't even chimed in yet, they're still sleepig out there in the mid-west.

I'm sure we can get this problem solved. Please give me a couple of days to do some testing/debugging. If I can't reproduce the problem here, would you be willing to send in your drive and I could fix the problem and send it back?

I believe I would, that's how much I depend upon MC!

Note that this Plextor model is a SATA drive, but if MC recognizes the drivename you must know that.  Again, I have had no problem using it with other software, and it works great to burn DVD's too.  I tried uninstalling Easy CD Creator 7 and nero 6.6 and still no difference.

One thing I forgot to mention: after trying a burn or even a test-burn, when I go back into Tools,Options, CD Writer, the drive is GONE!  MC doesn't even recognize I have it anymore until after a reboot.  Very odd...

I forgot to ask you to send a log file. Please use the following instructions:

Turn on MC's logging for CD burning by changing the value of this registry key from zero (0) to one (1):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 11\CD Writer\Logger

(note: if you are using Media Jukebox, substitute "Media Jukebox" for "Media Center 10" or "Media Center 11" in the above registry location.)

Then just start up Media Center and try to burn a CD or DVD (you can leave test mode checked to avoid creating a coaster). Then exit MC and find a file in the MC program directory called "cdwriter.log" and email that to me. Remember that the log file is overwritten each time you start up MC, so you must send the file before restarting MC. It's quite large so you may want to zip it before sending.

Sorry for the delay. I examined the log file closely and can't find any glaring problems. It seems to write all the data and finish normally without error. The only thing a little odd is the amount of data you're writing. It looks like it was about 850MB which is more than most CD-R media can handle. Did Media Center give any warnings about being over the limit?
Also, you said it took about an hour!!! to write the CD. Did it look like it was writing the entire time (CD light flickering fairly constantly), or did it look like it wrote most of the data early on and then just hung for a LONG time doing nothing?
As a test (and maybe you've already done this), try burning a disk which much less data (maybe 30 minutes or so) and see if it behaves much differently.
