Can't Copy CDs - Help
« on: September 29, 2002, 11:02:07 am »

I have my MP3 collection backed up on CD.  Now I am trying to copy all those MP3s back to my hard drive - but it slows down and gives me either one of two error messages:

Cannot copy - invalid MS DOS function

or

cannot Copy - Cyclic Redundancy Cehck

What's going on here?  here's some info about my system:

Athlon XP1600
256 mb RAM
windows xp home
MJ 8 installed (previous version, but it worked well before my computer went down this summer.  anyway MJ program is closed.   I am doing this copy thru windows explorer.  BTW,  these MP3s do play when I open MJ and "open media file" to play it right from the CD)
MP3's are on CD-RW which was brand new before buring.  (only burned once)

Is it just the one cd-rw you're having trouble with? It could be damaged.
Also, try to read it from the same drive that you burned it on.

I just ttried a CD Recovery program and it says there are Bad Sectors from which it cannot read.   Is this caused by a physical problem with the CD or the program that was used to format and burn it? (Adaptec Easy CD cREator 5)?

Most likely a physical problem with the CD.
But.. have you tried reading it with more than one CD drive? It's possible the drive you're trying to read it with is having problems.
