After not having an accident for 25 or 30 years, I backed a rental car into the only pole standing next to a building in a parking lot.  Didn't see it.  Bam.  $500 of damage.

My worst starting experience was the January mornings averaged around 15 below zero F here in Minnesota.  I had a diesel that wouldn't start.  I finally found I could take coals out of our wood stove, pile them under the crankcase, and wait 20 minutes.  Sometimes I had to do this 2 or 3 times, but it always started.

Luckily it doesn't get that cold here, it just rains alot!

After running into it I just sat there thinking how on earth
did i not remember there was a wall there!
My only excuse is that I should have fixed that bulb that
had gone on the reversing lights... doh!

Looks like I'm hunting scrappys over the weekend!

After a trip, I put the trailer with the motorcycle on it in the garage. The next day, I went to take the bike off: back the car up to the trailer, drop the hitch on the ball, think "I don't need to close the clasp, I'm not going anywhere", and pull the trailer out into the downward sloping driveway. I sat on the bike and pushed it backwards. When the weight of the bike crossed the axle line, the front of the trailer popped up and off the ball. Since the driveway was sloping downwards, the trailer began coasting downwards with me stuck on a bike on top of it. I only had time to think "oh man, this was really stupid, my friends are gonna die laughing" before the hitch of the trailer bounced off the license plate of the car and gently came to rest on the bumper (whew).

the paint job was $266 at maaco, so i figure that brought the value of the car up to $267

went to manchester (4.5 hour drive) for the weekend, took my mum to Tesco's about 8 in the evening, came out, car wouldn't start. Recovery guy hit me £80 for a new battery. Seems the old one wasn't holding its charge. was painful.

not as painful as these mind you!

Also, many years ago, as the line of traffic I was in was pulling away from traffic lights, I spotted a friend on the pavement (sidewalk?) so beeped the horn and waved 'hallo'. While I was doing that, the line of traffic stopped and I drove straight into the back of the car in front! Talk about wanting the ground to swallow you up, boy, did I feel dumb.
Pleased to say I've learned from these early mishaps and have now (touch wood) enjoyed 15-20 years of trouble free motoring. When we're young, we get annoyed at insurance companies penalising us with higher premiums, but now I'm, well, not so young, I have to say, I think they have that absolutely right.
My Dad could have written that last sentence, LOL.

Once upon a time, while reversing out of a pub car parking space, i managed to turn the wheel and slam the front wing of my mini pickup into the stone wall. d'oh! I'd been on blackcurrent and soda all night. The best part was i couldn't afford to fix it so drove around with a big "Oops" written on my wing for months (cheers mate).
When i did have the cash to get the car restored, i got it all fixed, re-sprayed, then promptedly turned it on it's roof ~3hrs after the work was finished..... you live and learn eh?

Finished arranging all the pictures from the past few years.
Reach over, hit CTL-A, hit Delete.

No idea why, just one of those times when my brain was saying "Stop idiot!" but my hand continued.

'Luckily' my backup program kicked in and did its job. It faithfully deleted all the files from
the backup device. As it should, they no longer existed on the source after all.

I did have the presence of mind to pull the power from the USB drive, but still lost 100s of megs of files.
