Linux server for ape files
« on: November 07, 2005, 02:30:44 pm »

I have a dedicated fileserver with ape files to serve media center on my windows computers. Having experimented with linux recently, I am toying with the idea of transforming my windows server into a linux server.

But before I do that a (maybe) stupid question for the linux literate: Is a .APE a file format which can be served from a linux platform? I don't want to playback APE files on the linux system (at least as long as there is no MC linux),  just serve them to windows computers on my home network.

Should that work?

Yes you can use a linux based server to serve .ape files to a windows client.  When the server is set up properly, your windows client will see the shared directories on the linux machine just like it would see shared directories on a windows server.

I use SME Server for just this purpose.
