Linkplayer Not Seeing uPNP server
« on: November 07, 2005, 02:17:19 am »

Hello, I have an IO Data Linkplayer with the Oct 31st Firmware update and it does not see the uPNP server. I have tried both the 11.0 and 11.1.49 releases with the same results. 11.0 did not have the Linkplayer listed in the uPNP plugin but 11.1.49 does and my linkplayer does not see it when it's running at all. I have tried both turning the server on and also turning my Linkplayer off then on again and still it does not see it. I checked to make sure it sees a media server running on my pc by turning on windows media connect and also nero 7's uPNP server and the Linkplayer sees both of those (1 at a time, none of the servers were run at the same time). I just found MC today and so far am impressed with the organization features and really want a good way to organize my video collection other than through manual means.

Thanks for any help,

Toonces

On the UPnP page, there is an options button.  Did you try using it to set the player?

Yes, I selected the Linkplayer from the menu. I also tried setting the port to 8000 to see if that made a difference. Here's the output I get from displaying warning screens:

Hi Toonces (been driving lately?)

I  upgraded the IOData firmware to the Oct 31st version, and it's still working fine for me. I'm not sure why it isn't for you. Try the following steps:

Run Media Center.
Choose options under UPnP server.
Select "AvelLink Player" (all options below should be greyed out).
Deselect "Warn on unrecognized notify" and "Specify TCP Port".
Select "Convert Audio if neccesary" and the "MP3 Encoder".
Exit Media Center.
Power off the AvelLink (unplug it to make sure).
Start Media Center, verify the UPnP Server is running.
Turn on the AvelLink.

Let me know if this works or not...

I tried it just as written and the Linkplayer still does not show. I am using 11.1.49 unregistered. I also tried the same steps specifying port 8000 (the default for the linkplayer when manually adding a server) and manually added my pc running MC to the linkplayer.

Thanks!

What's the status page showing (now that the unrecognized notifys are turned off)?

What's your computer name? (Check under control panel, system, computer name).

Huh. Not making sense at all. What's the network setup look like?
Are there any routers between the PC and the AvelLink?

If you can, do a network sniff with Ethereal (www.ethereal.com) and send it to me (gateley @ jriver.com). The best way to do this is:
Start Media Center(and the UPnP Server).
Start Ethereal capturing.
Turn on the AvelLink.
Wait until the AvelLink finishes searching for servers.
Stop Ethereal.
Save it as an ethereal file (not a text file).
