Sync tags with iTunes
« on: November 10, 2005, 09:15:13 pm »

I'm trying to sync the tags between Media Center (10) and iTunes (6).  No matter what i do, i can't get the rating to sync between the two.  Anyone know how to do it?

At the present time, MC11 does not have very good support for .m4a tags.  It will read standard genres, but may not be able to read custom ones.  iTunes stores its ratings in a database, not in the file, even though AAC files support rating as a tag.  :(

You may want to try MC 11.1.  It make switching between iTunes and MC a little more seamless.

Also, we'd recommend a less proprietary format than .m4a (like .mp3) so you'll have more universal support. (and better support from MC as well)

My question to you Matt, is why are there apps such as Tag&Rename that have even better tagging support for .m4a files than even iTunes has?  Surely it can't be proprietary as RealPlayer 10.5's default file format is .m4a.  ?

What do you mean by a little more seamless?

Is it possible to sync ANY library data between the 2?

What specific functionality is built in to MC with regards to itunes?
