Is defining a harddisk location (i.e. notebook) as portable device pulled out in 11.1.x ? I couldn't figure out how to do it with the new options dialogs.

Right-click on "Drives & Devices" and pick "Add Device".

The system in MC 11.1 is far more flexible than MC 11.0.  Let us know how you fare.

This has not worked for me when the target is a network location (even if it is on the same computer). It tries to transfer files but shows errors in status for each file. It works fine for local folders. I have verified that the target directory has write permissions.

Also, you probably want to add a "add device..." button to Options/Handheld for general public.

When we add a device, we sould be able to give a new name to the device and define the path in one go! It's awkward to do it in two steps!

What about the synching of images?

Has the problem with duplicates been solved?

Just  a reminder: images are considered duplicates if they have the same tags, but a different file name! With music this is mostly the case, but with images you can have many different images (unique filenames) having the same tags. This should not lead to duplicates errors when synching!

Update on this:
If I use a local drive name mapped to a network drive, MC works fine.
