I'm having a problem importing jpegs.

Tried different directories, so no one file is the culprit.

It detects the files, but when it goes to import, the program just ends (doesn't even hang...just ends).

I've tried creating log files, but the log file is empty.

My mp3 and ogg importing goes OK, no problem there.

My computer is Pentium 4, 1.8 GHz, 512 MB RAM. XP, SP2

Any suggestions on how to start troubleshooting?

In addition to this, since I've seen some posts on Maxtor drives, I've looked at my drives, an 80 GB Western Digital that came with my computer (3 years old) and a 300 GB Western Digital internal that I just installed.  Does it make sense to try a firmware upgrade on these?

Possibly this is not a file format problem, but it might help to check that if you could post a link to a sample image.

What is your MC version? Have you tried reinstalling MC?

That applies only to drives connected through network. Those drives have an operating system and they are technically network servers.

Your comments prompted me to try reducing the image size and then importing.  The smaller size imported fine...the larger size choked.  I am going to post examples of each, and I will post a link them.

By the way, is there a file size limit for jpegs? I've been doing some reading, but I cannot find one.

I think there is a limit. As a test I just imported a 17 MB/4992x3328 Canon EOS-1 DS MKII sample image (VJ9J8080_CR2.JPG) from this site: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_reviews/1dsm2_samples.html. MC11.0 imported it fine, but can't display it.

Wow.  That's good to know.  If we replace our 20D with a MarkII (as we are considering) MC will choke when trying to display the files...

Is this problem limited to JPEGs, or does it affect CR2 files too?

There was an artificial 64 mega-pixel limit to detect "corrupt" images, and not cause out-of-memory errors.  This was removed in MC 11.1.

It's amazing how fast these cameras are improving.

There was also a physical size limit of 12 MB we were checking against.  It'll be removed (or seriously upped) in the build of MC 11.1 tonight.

I wondered about that when I first read about the 64MP limit.  Scanning Backs can hit those numbers, but the MarkII (while pretty sweet) doesn't.

Alas, I planned to mention it when I got home, but I was too late.  Good work!
