column width saving
« on: November 23, 2005, 05:25:10 am »

is it possible to get MC11 to remember the widths of columns after you've set them?

after changing from playing now to a playlist or something else the previous views column widths revert back to default rather than waht I had jsut set them to. I have tried to use the "save this view and for ALL locations" without any luck with it affecting the column widths.

a search for width and widths on the forum yields little results.

any help appreciated.

I don't have an answer, but I too would like to see some way of saving column widths.  It's a pain to have to re-adjust every time.

MC does remember column widths.  You just have the "auto-size" column option turned on (which might be the default, I don't remember).  Either way, go to Tools > Options > Tree & View > Uncheck Auto size columns.

It should work the way you expect then.

Your right, but the autosize isn't allways making the maximum column width.

So, or it should be automatic, and I can read the whole text, or I should be able to do it manual, but allso be able to save the width.

Ben.

I think it's a "smart size" type auto-sizing mechanism, similar to Excel's.  Basically, it sizes the column so that the vast majority of the text in the column fits, but excludes "exceptional" cases (those that are far longer than the norm).  This prevents 1 entry that is 8,000,000 characters long from breaking the auto-size function.

ahmmm, still behaves in the same way as it did before. sure it doesn't "auto-size" the columns, but it surely doesnt remember the column widths I've set.

I am only using: artist, track name, rating, custom 1, comment

I will try to post a screen dump later.

Bear in mind that you get a different size for each view
so playing now and the media library will be sized differently, and
within Media Library, audio view is seperate again etc.

Seems to be working here, auto-size turned off.
Change a column size, close MC, Open MC,
Column size as i left it..

Also WFM.  Good point though Mr. Chriz.  I didn't think to mention that each View Scheme item in the tree can have it's own column sizing.
