iPod crash
« on: December 16, 2005, 01:03:21 pm »

I installed the trial version of Media Center for a friend, plugged in his iPod, it recognized the device, told it we wanted to transfer files manually, clicked OK... BOOM. Media Center crashed. Started again, this time navigated to the iPod through the drives tree on the left... BOOM.

This is a new PC and the iPod has songs put on it by another PC. I told my friend to get iTunes and clear his iPod, then try again. Any other tips?

Thanks!

You don't need itunes.
Follow these steps and you'll be good to go.
1) use the ipod updater software and choose the option to reset the ipod.
2) download and install a recent 11.1 build of Media Center.  Ipod support has been improved lately.  The latest beta build 11.1.
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter111082.exe
3) Connect the ipod to the computer before starting Media Center.
4) Open up windows explorer and verify that the ipod is being seen in MY COMPUTER with a drive letter.
5) Start Media Center.
6) If it asks again if you want Media Center to recognize it, say yes.
7) In the tree on the left side, expand DRIVES & DEVICES.  Your Ipod will be visible here if step 4 works.
8) Right click the ipod and select "initialize ipod" from the context menu.
9) drag a couple of songs to the ipod and click the transfer button.
