I have set file associations in Windows XP  for MC to play .mid files.  But when I click (in Windows Explorer) on .mid files, Windows Media Player comes up instead.  When I go to the Plug-Ins in Media Center, I see options for .mp3, .ogg, etc. etc., but nothing for .mid.  When I click on a .mid file from within MC, nothing happens. How do I get MC to play a .mid file?

MC has the ability to handle file associations itself.
If you go to Tools->Options
The fourth item down the left hand side is File Associations.
MIDI is down there somewhere, toggle it, and MC  will open them
from that point on :-)

You might also turn that selction off in winxp just so winxp doesn't take the file association back.

Yes, this appears to do the trick so far as getting the association with .mid files to stay permanently with MC.

But now I have the problem that when MC attempts to play a .mid file, the sound is VERY distorted.  (the file plays ok in Windows Media Player and other players).  I have turned off all the options in DSP Studio.  Are there other options for the player that I should look at?  Playing a .mid file would seem such a simple thing...there must be some  thing I have fiddled with in playing back my .mp3 files that affects .mid playback.

Thanks for all your help.  I hope you may have some further ideas.
