iRiver H10 synch very slow
« on: December 28, 2005, 04:43:37 am »

So I tried synching my son's H10 but gave up when MC was predicting a 17 minute upload at .2 Mbyte/sec.  Windows Explorer did the job in 10 seconds.  Any ideas what's slowing things up so badly?

i had lots of troubles with the h10. when using windows media player, as instructed, it did playlists fine but also put all albums, etc, that were transfered as albums into the playlist folder. i gave up after a couple of couples and swapping the unit. for awhile i thought media center was doing what windows media player wouldn't - uploading songs _ but in some cases they were on the h10 but wouldn't play.

I'm running 5-7mb/sec.

So I need some information.  What are your options?  How many songs are you trying to sync?  etc etc.

I'm not doing any file conversion on the fly, and album artwork support was enabled (by default)- what other options would be useful to know?  I don't know how many songs I was trying to transfer, probably a few 10's assuming MC was right about taking 17 min at .2 Mbyte/sec.  This is a European H10, so it's the UMS version.

Um, I'm not sure.  Mine was set to defaults.

Was this a one off issue?  Or has it continued?

I'll keep an eye out for this.

I haven't tried it since, but as I've reported in another post the sync was also very slow to a generic player.  I'll make sure I've got the latest version and try again.

I updated MC to 11.1.92 and tried again, but it was just as slow.

The H10's the UMS version, so I haven't tried it with  Media Player.  Windows Explorer transfers the files in seconds though.

Just hand helds should be fine.

Previous attempts to synch the H10 were from my son's account on the PC. This time I tried from my own account and it ran perfectly!  Went back to the other account and it was slow!  So far as I can see MC is set up identically in both accounts, so either there's a difference in MC that I've missed or there's something about the way the XP accounts are set up.

Two questions - is there any way I can export / import MC settings so that I can guarantee they're identical?  Is there anything about the way an XP account can be set up that could account for this?

Not without hacking the registry.

Is there any additional software running under his account that isn't running under yours?

Hi Ian

as I have an iRiver too (though it's a H120), I wondered if you (or your son) ever managed to get an MC playlist to run on the iRiver?

Hi Araj

There doesn't seem to be an option for MC to produce playlists in iRiver's (or at least H10) format.  We've used an app called easy H10 to update the H10's database and convert the playlists.  I don't know if there's an equivalent for the H120 - you could try asking on misticriver.net.

<edit>
It looks like playlists for the H120 should be *.m3u and should go in the root folder
</edit>

Sorry to be so long getting back to you!  The short answer's no, but I'm getting strange results on this PC!  Account A (mine!) works fine, Account B is very slow and Account C refuses to synch at all - it insists there's no free space on the H10!  I'm doing the same things in all 3 accounts, and I tried creating a new library for Account B, but no luck.  All 3 accounts have admin privs.  I'll create a new account and see what that does.
