Transcoding to AAC on iPod sync
« on: December 29, 2005, 01:54:24 am »

Hi.  I've just started playing around with 11.1 and am trying to get MC to convert from APE to M4A/AAC on the fly during my ipod sync.  I tried using faac.exe as the external encoder but couldn't get it to work (it seemed to sync the database entry but not the file ?).  Has anyone gotten FAAC to work with an ipod as an MC11 external encoder or is it not compatible?

I have had some success with a program called itunesencode.exe that uses itunes (which I wanted to avoid but alas) to do the encoding.   This has worked for small batches, but when I try to sync my whole Ipod contents it tells me I am 55GB over capacity (because it seems to be calculating the file sizes prior to conversion) and won't let me sync.  Is there a way to override this MC11 check?

At least you are one person more who has the same wish to encode into AAC (see my post two days ago). I just hope there will be more users asking for a good solution...  (myself consider as a paying user and not as developer...)
