song sampler?
« on: January 11, 2006, 11:59:29 pm »

Here's a concept I'd like to be able to implement.
I want to reference a "recently imported" smartlist.
I then want MC to play the first X seconds of each song on that list.  Basically, a way to quickly sample new independent tracks.
Any way to do this in 11.1?

Thinking outside the MC box in the meantime....
I've set up the windows scheduler to run a
"MC11.exe /Command Next" every 1 minute.
While it works, it's not very elegant and has no idea if MC is even running or not.

I had A Plug-in that would do that once. you could set it from like 5 seconds to 1 min.

but very few people used it.

Apparently I hadn't.
That'll work though.
Any chance the lenths are editable by the end user via option or even registry settings?

I would love to see how to define multiple ranges of preview, say 3 chunks of 15 seconds every 1 minute starting from 40 seconds into the song. . .  Hey, Sparta, is there a way you can bring that plugin back to life? I get a lot of music with 1-2 minutes intro and outro, so the above mentioned MC's default preview playback options  don't cut it for me.

I'd be interested in that as well KingSparta, if the MC settings can't be edited.
I'd want the preview times to range from 10 seconds to 2 minutes.

They Can't

But You Can Ask Them For Configurable Options

Some Places That Offer 30 Seconds Of Music Before you Buy It Do Not Quite Get To the Best Part Of The Song.

I think Most Songs Have About 30 Seconds Of Lead-In Music And Then Get To The Root Of The Main Song.

It would be nice if if there was A Selectable menu

maybe By Percent (10% In And Or 30 Seconds In) And Play For (30% And Or 1 Min)

When I Made that Plug-in MJ\MC Did Not Have The Basic Preview Settings As They Are In MC11 Now.

JRiver powers that be,

I hereby request the addition of 60 and 120 second lengths to the 5, 10, 30 second choices already present.
Also wouldn't mind a 60 second lead-in option as well.

I would like to be able to preview 15 seconds of each track beginning at the 1-minute mark.  That tends to hit the chorus, the most recognizable part of a song.

With all that nice little "user defined" parameters implemented in the future release, consider buying a memory upgrade with the next version of MC  8)

It's possible to set arbitrary start times for selected tracks atm if you use Cue files.

Select a track, you want, make a cue sheet for just that track and include in it how far into the track you want it to start. Then import that cue file into MC and tag it as if it were the oringinal file.

This will work for long radio mixes when you dont want to hear the grp being introduced and any bla bla that precedes the act. Note that the cue method is good for defning start times only, there is no way to define an end time.

There is one problem tho, you would have to repeat the above tedious process for each track. At this point i hear a huge collective *GROAN*

Maybe create a cue sheet that will act as a template, with the times you want, make multiples copies of it for each track and edit the FILE item to point to the proper file.

Still tiring, but its the only way you can get what you want now, wihout using the preview option.
