When upgrading a system currently running MC version 10, is it best to install version 11 on top of version 10 before installing 11.1, or does it work just as well to install version 11.1 on top of version 10?

I suppose the MC11.1 installer has not changed after my last post.

Personally, I wouldn't try to install on top of MC10. Because of the possible smartlist issue I would take this route:

backup MC10 > uninstall MC10 > install MC11.0 > restore from the MC10 backup > backup MC11.0 > uninstall MC11.0 > install MC11.1 > restore the MC11.0 backup.

But as always, your mileage may vary.

I wasn't sure if things had changed since then given that 11.1 was "beta" at that point, and now it's a "release candidate."

What is the "smartlist issue"?  I tried searching for what you're referring to, but I'm not seeing anything that would seem to indicate a problem with smartlists when upgrading from 10 to 11.1.  Could you point me to more information on this, or perhaps give me some keywords that might bring up posts on this issue you're speaking of?

... MC 11.1 has no problems with restoring an MC10 library backup file into a newly created empty library. Almost everything was restored nicely including the static playlists and many of my smartlists. However, the date & time based smartlists were empty, like "Imported his week". I think the time system changed in 11.1 at some stage, though my similar 11.0 smartlists work fine in 11.1 and on the other hand MC11.0 accepted the same smartlists from MC10. ...
