Views as they are confusing.
« on: January 21, 2006, 10:37:46 am »

I've posted before about how it would be useful to have
the top and bottom menu's back.  It's just dawned on
me why I get so confused by the current system.
If I have the left option menu set to Panes
in the options on the right it allows you to change
between details and thumbnail views.  This changes the
bottom section of my view. All well and good.
However, If on the left menu I'm in either Albums or Artists
view the right hand menu gives me the options for different
size tiles, and again details, however this changes the top section of my
view, not the bottom.  Which is inconsistent.

The only way in tiles view to then change from Thumbnails to Details
is to right click on something and select customize view.
It would be so nice to be able to do this from the right hand menu again.

Showing any list below tiles is an advanced feature that's off by default.

I can see what your saying. I think where I've been
following the beta's I'd forgotten I'd turned that option on at some point...
However I certainly don't think of it as an option for Advanced Users,
I'd love to have the option of changing the bottom when it is turned
on via the options menu.
Could it not be instead of "Show Files at Bottom"

 Show at Bottom :>
       * Don't Show Bottom View
       * Details
       * Thumbnails
       * Album Thumbnails

Where Show At Bottom is still under the options menu, and the Asterisk Items are part
of a submenu?

Wow, this one is really confusing.  I installed the latest version and when I clicked on the Audio tree link, it had Artists selected (remembered from before) and in the bottom view had Album thumbnails. I was confused because I thought file details were supposed to be in the bottom view. I checked the Options menu and sure enough "Show files at bottom" was selected so where were the files? Tried a bunch of things right-clicking all over the place, searching Tools-Options, etc. with no solution.

Searched through the forum and found this topic. Ahhh, I have to go to Panes, then select Options, then select Details, and finally I can go back to Artists view to see the "files" below.

There HAS to be an easier way to change the bottom view. Mr. ChriZ's suggestion is good.

We're not sure why you'd ever need anything other than "Automatic" list mode for the bottom, which is the default.

Matt,

It's nice to have say Artists listed at the top and when clicking on their tile showing all their albums in the bottom.  I usually play by album rather than track so this is a nice way to select albums.  It can be done currently using toolbar buttons but you have to select the bottom area each time to change its view. It's easier than having artist tiles, then clicking album to see that artists albums then going back to artists, clicking album on another artist etc.  Just makes things all the more flexible.  I can understand not wanting this on by default but it would be useful to have it as a possibility even if it were a sub menu under options.  Like Mr Chriz said at the moment the two menus are inconsistent and thus could be confusing to a user.

I think actually you've hit the nail on the head!  Most of the time I only want to see details at the bottom,
however if i've used the Pane View before hand and had that viewing thumbnails,
then return to the thumbnail view it then displays Thumbnails under the tiles, which
gets confusing.

Agreed.  They should be separate settings.  We'll take a look.
