I'd love to see the artist view extended to be able to do the following
idea

Especially when i have the money to buy a fair sized screen 

Please have a play with the artist view in MC 11.1 as it is with the files
shown at the bottom before rejecting the idea

We have this already.....why do you need to see the album thumb for the Artist at top...for multiple artists? You can do that do...just highlight a bunch of artists and View Albums...can you elaborate on your idea a bit for me?

I think it is a bit much.

What would be coold is if someday, the tiles could be rotated like cubes with all of the choices listed and when clicked on, that specific side of the cube the album or field would play.

Have you used the Artist view of 11.1 with files at the bottom?
It's just a very nice graphical way of seeing the artists...

when you hover the mouse over the thumbnail it switches between the albums.
If with one click it then showed you the albums, then with one click
it then showed you the tracks for that album... well that would just work for me!
It would be the quickest way to select whether to play an entire artist collection,
album or just individual tracks...

It is only a small extension to how you can set up the Artist view currently,
fitting the Albums inbetween Artists and Files.....

It also kind of reminds me of using OS/X's file browsing interface,
sort of a progressive selection.

I really think graphically not text based, the thumbnails for me represent
an artist far more than their name does, i can associate their music
with an album thumbnail quicker than their artist name.

Rather than an album thumbnail, I would like to see an image of the actual artist when looking at an artist view.

EXACTLY!!! A Picture of a person and not some album cover you don't always recognize at first. I have been thinking about this.

Not sure if an artist would always be recognisable in a thumbnail, but album covers are more distinctive.

I like the idea Mr Chriz. MC currently gets close, but that final step would be cool.

Well I would simply select from the drop down list like it currently is and MC shows those tiles.

The selection would be based on the last click.  So clicking an album would filter
the bottom (tracks) to just that album.  Selecting an artist would filter to the artist.
The idea could be extended to be years or whatever as opposed to album (great idea!),
but I think albums would be a good starting place.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find decent pictures for each artist, and to be honest
I don't know what half the artists that produce the music i listen to look like,
but I do know the album covers, because I bought the cd!
Regardless that is more to do with the artist view as it is currently than my idea,
 which would work either way...

if I properly understand your idea, what you want is something like a "vertical graphical pane view", the kind of progressive selection that is such a great feature in the panes view, but just graphical and top down. Correct?

That would be a nice feature, but it should allow to select what kind of graphics one wants to display. The current implementation is kind of limiting. On the top levels I always see the same images, example: in the people view I have more than a 1000 images, but I always see the same picture of myself, just because it happens to be the first image in the selection - quite boring.

I'm not really sure how you would apply it for images.  I was targetting the
idea specifically at audio, and in particular just an extension of the artist view as it is now.

That is the whole point of the problem.  How does MC know what to display under the first graphical pane?

It sounds like a totally new way to view audio that would not be apart of the existing MC views?

The top panel would be indentical to how it is now,
it does not change!

Just bring up a recent build of MC11.1
and put it on artist view, with either small, medium or large tiles,
and with the option to display files at the bottom.

In my example I typed into the search Coldplay so only coldplay
was shown, all I've done is add albums in the middle.

This is not a totally new view, it's an addition to the artist view in Media Center 11.1

No matter what is selected in the top view, the middle view is always albums?

I guess that would save us one click.

I noticed this with the bottom view of album thumbnails (still on 11.0), so added a sort

~sort=[date imported]-d

this makes sure the latest imported is always the first. Useful for checking that album art, import etc went ok. Also changes
