Can't tag
« on: September 22, 2002, 03:55:44 am »

Just trying to tidy up tags in a new batch of mp3's and after selecting ten, entering an artist name and clicking save, MJ goes to an inactive window and hangs. CtrAltDel out and try again, same thing. CtrAltDel out and try with one file, same thing.
Any ideas?

Yangus

try it with freshly riped MP3's

as jimH said it maybe a bad mp3, and that is possable due to other taging that may have been done that is not campatable with ID3 taging.

if that does not work, you might want to look at how taging is setup in:

Plugin manager, Input, MP3

and make sure it is setup correctly

And Tagging Does Work

I stand corrected. Turns out one of the files was causing the problem.

JimH,
Might I suggest, with respect, that tagging doesn't work if the whole program crashes on a bad file. If it came up with a message e.g. 'file is corrupt and can't be tagged' or something, I'd be more inclined to agree with you.
Not trying to be funny, just think its something you should look into.

I second this. It's a bug, not a missing feature.

I agree.

We would be happy to exit gracefully, but first we need to recreate the condition that causes the problem.

Please send the bad file, if you still have it, to jimh @ jriver.com along with a description of the problem.

It seems to me this problem has surfaced in the last two weeks.  It's about the same time that WMP9 beta has been out and WinXP SP1.  Could be something else.

Anything you can do to find out why the file was bad would help.

I had this problem as well (and found the MP3 causing it).

However other tag programs had no problem with it.

I removed it from the MJ Library and then re-imported it.

Everything worked fine on it from then on.

Anyway, the point is it may not truly be just in the file. In my case it was some combination of the file and the MJ Library entry.

Has no one sent you a file yet?  I'll e-mail y'all you one as soon the problem happens again.
