I am using a stereo-link 1200 usb dac to connect my computer to my stereo. In the playback options when I select ASIO as output mode I don't hear music from my stereo. Is anyone using ASIO with stereo-link 1200?

If I recall, the Stereo-Link uses Windows' native USB audio driver which does not support ASIO. To check, after selecting ASIO under "Output mode" check to see if the Stereo-Link appears in the "Device" dropdown under "Output mode settings" my guess is that it won't be there.

You can try the ASIO4All driver at: http://www.asio4all.com/ to see if it supports the Stereo-Link.

ASIO was designed primarily for music recording in sequencers such as Steinberg's Cubase. Its main advantage is low latency which lets you record a new track while playing back previous tracks without noticeable delay between them.

As far as sound quality is concerned, you'd be just as well off using standard sound drivers.

Also, bit perfect 44.1 kHz digital output is possible only with MC's ASIO output mode.

Since Stereo-Link 1200 doesn't have digital outputs the only reason to use ASIO would be lower latency (in case the ASIO4ALL driver happens to work with it).
