Bug: When Streamium searches (via PCLink button for example), and finds a server it already knew about, it won't use the new URL provided by that servers response, making it appear the server doesn't work.

JimH,

You don't even mention the Airport Express -- is that because it is a totally different technology, so it's not even on the table? Or you just don't like Apple?

Just wondering.

It's not UPnP and it's also a different type of device.  You control the music from the computer, not from the device or its remote.

Thanks. I thought it must be something obviously technical, but I just kept wondering.

I noticed that none of the devices listed above will play iTunes files (those bought on iTunes Music Service), which is a bummer. Not to mention anything like ogg or some of the other formats that MC users use. I'm really starting to see the difficulties of these format wars that are raging. . .

Maybe you guys should develop something that will play anything that MC will play. Yes, that would be ideal.  ;D

Jim, you mention the Omnifi DMS1, how about the DMP1? Just picked one up cheap off of Ebay, and I'd love to use it with MC11... If you need anyone to test it, let me know.

It claims UPnP support, which means it has a chance of working. Give it a try and see. Post the log here on the UPnP Server thread in the Media Center forum.

When using these media streamers, is the audio information being pushed to the media steamer or is the steamer pulling the information from your computer.

I would like to use Media Jukebox to select the music to be played and be able to change the music selection, etc. from my computer at anytime (not the TV).

Which device do you recommend?

I've tryed the LinkSys WAM11B and did not like it.  The WAM11B forces you to specifiy the source for your music and pictures and then you must use the TV interface to select the music you want to play.  Also, the streamer pulls the information from your computer.  Needless to say, I'm returning it today.  ...and, I see from your list that it doesn't work with Medi Jukebox anyway.

Thanks...

It won't work with MJ, only our Media Center 11 product.  Selection is done on the client side (the TV) and not on the PC.

My Linksys WMLS11B doesn't seem to work and I'm not sure if it should or not.  A request to retrieve playlists just hangs.

The device does work with MusicMatch (gasp).

The Linksys devices are non-standard UPnP and won't work with MC.

Doesn't work without MC either.   :)
I'm returning it this morning and going with the NetGear.

You might want to update the post to move the Linksys from the "may work" category to the "don't bother" category.

Is the status of the Omnifi DMS1 current?  It is currently listed as "Not now, maybe soon"...

Yeah, this is because of the deal at Woot http://www.woot.com/woot_detail.aspx

Is push support something that's theoretically possible with UPnP? If so, are the plans to support this at some point down the road?  If not, would it be possible to support this through other means?

It seems ideal to be able to browse albums on the server via WiFi using NetRemote, and then be able to push them to a destination device.  This would effectively create a 'zoned' sytem without the need to monkey with multiple channels/sound cards.

Hi tmorten,

I'm pretty sure the push capability is theoretically possible, but the reality is that I'm not sure anyone implements it at the moment.

I have the DLINK DSM-320 (1.05ca firmware) and recently installed MC 11.0.250 with UPNP 1.0.20.  I have launched UPNP 1.0.20, however, my DSM-320 can't see MC.  I have disabled my firewall and am using a DLINK router.  I do have Microsoft Media Connect installed but not active.  Can you advise on what is wrong as many of the threads mention DSM-320 compatibility back at the UPNP 1.0.11 release.

Cheers-

Scott.

Sort of. There are actually two UPnP standards relating to media players in this case. There is the UPnP library (which is what MC is making available), and there is a UPnP transport/controller (which includes things like play, pause, next, previous, and "play file"). Generally the play file would actually pull files from a UPnP library.

Unfortunately in the current state most of the UPnP "players" don't act like UPnP transport/controllers, they have custom UI's and only use UPnP to pull files from UPnP libraries.

It's unfortunate, because a player that supported a UPnP controller/transport could easily be controlled by NetRemote (or similar).

Is anyone going to respond to my post?  I see that it has been "logged" but there is no response as my DLINK DSM-320 continues to NOT RECOGNIZE my MC11.

Please respond and not just log.  I have previously posted my network configuration as well as my error Notifications.

Sscotanus - does it work with another server (like the one that came with the dlink)? It sounds like a network configuration problem.

Mansen - UPnP is all about "it just works", except it doesn't always just work. If both the Buffalo and MC are on the same network segment, there should be no configuration neccesary. If they are separated by a router, then you'll need to do some.

In the UPnP Options, under the UPnP Plug-in, in the tree, turn off the Notify warnings and set the receiver to Buffalo Linktheater.

Please tell me what your other options are.

Is the buffalo recognizing the server at all?

I just tried my buffalo, it works:
System Version: 02-LTI
D5l version: v1a

Check your version.

Also try the buffalo provided server.

Since it was getting the device descsription before, but not now, sounds like it's not connected anymore.

Make sure your power cycle the buffalo after starting the server.

Hi,

It seems my cble modem dosent support private IP adresses, and that that is the problem.

Will be buying a router tonight and checking it again.

Hi,
i have a router now.

I bought the player in Japan, and the bundled sw does not install on my PC.
However, i dl the IO data server, and that works fine.

JRiver media center does not connect still.

Maybe its related to a japanese version of the UPNP client in the player?

I'm stumped - it should work. Try starting the server first, then the buffalo, and vice versa. Double check your options, make sure Buffalo is selected and the right IP address is being used. If there's a router in the picture (not a hub or a switch), you'll have to configure the router to pass through multicast packets, but if it's working for the other server, it should be doing that...

Hi,

I have just got a Pinnacle Show Center 1000g and it is supposed to support UPnP.  Does anyone know how I get MC11 to work with it, or is it another non-standard device?

Is there any plans to add Show Center support in the future to MC11 if it is not already built in?

I would love to get MC11 working as the server for my device, as the software provided by Pinnacle can't seem to handle the amount of media I have!

Hi Jedra, I haven't tried this one yet.

Look at the instructions here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=28140.0

You may have to try different options...

Let us know, Thanks

The showcenter 1000g has a full media renderrer function built in but no UPnP control point function .... so is unable to locate, browse and instruct the server to start the media stream. If however you have a seperate UPnP control point that can point the server at the 1000g then it works fine... in fact its more stable over a wireless link than the pinnacle server.

The only Control point software that I am aware of is the Free Intel UPnP AV sample tools they published to showcase there UPnP development toolkit. I have used thes to successfully stream to the 1000g UPnP renderer from Twonkyvission, MC11, Nero Media home server and the free Intel server.

There is more development going on to develop seperate UPnP AV control points ...... but for the moment the intel tool is a bit naff but it works.

I am opting to ditch the 1000g in favour of the 200 model... which is supposed to have a 'BASIC' UPnP implementation.

SMC EZ STREAM support Status.

I was wondering if you have made any headway with supporting this device. I know other server software other than SMC, supports it. Do you intend to update MC11 to support it as well?

If the EZ Stream has the latest ROM update, it will only recognize the SMC server.

I don't see MacSense HomePod on your list.  They support UPnP.  I've tested it with MediaCenter and it works better than the Roku 500/1000 does, which I've also tested.  It's not perfect, but's it's close.  Any plans to check it out?

This device looks interesting, especially for the price.

Does it support streaming in WAV format?

John,

Unfortunately mine was updated to the newest firmware. However, the newest release of TVersity supports it and it works fairly well. However, I think MC11 would have even better functionality if it were able to support the SMC. Do you think you may have a chance to investigate this some in the near future?
