FLAC Problems -- DO NOT USE 11.1.146 with FLAC
« on: March 16, 2006, 03:31:40 pm »

After updating to version .146 I have tried to play numerous FLAC files but MC11 kept saying waiting and the failed to play because the file was moved or corrupt.  I tried with numerous FLAC files that I was playing a day ago and had the same answer.

So I checked my library and noticed that the files I had tried to play had 0 bytes! I tried to play a FLAC file that was complete and watched as MC11 deleted(50.1 mb to 0 bytes) the file in front of my eyes(split screen)!

All other file types work and the files that I am playing have always been fine.  I am afraid to go to .145 in fear that it wont make any difference and the files will be deleted just the same. I tried to reinstall the FLAC plugins and no difference.  Is there something else I can do and why is MC11 deleting my files?

MC just hard locked while trying to sync my ipod. Reading this got me wondering if .flacs were causing problems.

I'm not seeing your problem here though.

what version and by which author, is your .flac decoder?

I have never before seen a player emptying files, but it happens with 11.1.146 & Scot's FLAC decoder v. 1.5.

My test file was 3.7 MB before a playback attempt and zero byte after it. I opened it with a hex editor. The file was literally empty.

As a test, I reverted to 11.1.145 . It does not have this problem.

I am using .146 and Scot's FLAC version 1.5. I haven't plugged the ipod back in but I think I'll wait after marko had problems syncing his.

Alex,
Are you saying that the file is deleted?

We'll pull the build to investigate right away.

Our apologies.  We didn't realize third party plugins were depending on the new reader interfaces yet.

The interface changed yesterday.  Tonight's build will change it back to a format with backwards compatibility.

Ocenter--
I've been running 11.1.145 nonstop and my library is only FLAC, and is still there.  Note that I am using decoder  v1.3, which is still available on Scot's site, along with v1.4. From what I read there, only decoder v1.5 uses the JrReader.

I am really sorry+troubled to hear what happened to your library.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you have backups.

I'm sorry to hear of troubles.  Hopefully everyone has backups or the original CDs and can recover their data.

I'll work to integrate the new interface into the plugins so that we can keep on using flac with MC.

My recommendations for now are to stay with 11.1.145 or update to 147, which do not have the problem.  Alternatively, go back to version 1.4 of the decoder, which apparantly does not have the problem.

Build 147 should also work fine.

I just noticed this thread.

I too run flac and had .146 installed for a short while.  If I create a smartplaylist of files of 0B would that highlight any flacs I might have lost (I have backups so I can recover, but going through all 5000 files would be a problem).

Hmm after trying to make a playlist as describe I was unable to.  I tried [size]==0 and [size]=>0 and both returned no records.

I then just had a view display ALL flac files and sort by file size ascending.  I show no records with a 0byte size.  I got lucky I guess cause I do not think I actually listened to any music via MC but I thought maybe I synced some to my iPod.

I think it's only a problem with the latest FLAC plug-in and 146.
