Freeze with high pitched squeal
« on: September 20, 2002, 12:53:10 am »

I recently upgraded to Audigy Gamer, lastest drivers and lastest MJB version. While I am online, downloading and listening to music with MJB my system freezes and there is a high pitched "squealing". I have to reboot then everything is fine for a while. What gives?

AKA The "Squeal Of Death".  A phenomenon well known to Creative users.   It's definitely the drivers.

Visit the Creative news groups (http://news://news.creative.com) and do a search.  Actually, I shoud have said "it's definitely not MJ" instead of "It's definitely the drivers".   Motherboard chipsets and BIOSes seem to be involved as well.

Yup ... it's a well known issue.

The latest drivers fixed my Audigy issues ... but others have also had to install PCI latency patches to solve the issue.

I have the latest drivers. My BIOS will allow me to adjust latency, it is currently at the default of 32.
