Can a website be added to the tree for quick access?
« on: March 24, 2006, 04:53:14 pm »

Is there a way to get quick access to a web site from within MC -- i.e. is there a way to add a web site to the tree or to the "favorites" list (similar to the way the "Audible" branch works)?  I'd like to be able to access www.shoutcast.com from within MC.  At the moment, if I go to the "start" page and use the google search box, I can get the shoutcast site to appear in the MC main window -- I'd simply like to get instant access to this page.

I know that this capability wasn't available a while back, but I thought that maybe this had changed with 11.1.

Thanks,

Larry

Larry,

The words "brick wall", "head", and "bang" spring to mind when reading your post   ::)  A quick search reveals that you, and I, have been asking about this for some months, with no positive response, generally because the built-in WebMedia thingy is lacking.

I admire your perseverance  :)

Well it's easy to embed an IE control into MC...but then i vaguley recall ppl not liking this idea because of all the IE vulnerabilities involved. I bet JRiver does not want to be responsible for some PC getting infected via MC.

Firefox, Opera etc were suggested, but those don't tend to be as easy to integrate. also some don't want to have to install these apps just to browse within MC. No ActiveX enabled sites.

What is the answer ?

I can't say that I really understand the security implications, but given that you can navigate the web via the "Start" page (i.e. the Google search window) as well as the "Podcast" window, is it really any less secure to allow people to save a "favorite" URL either in their "favorites," or in the actual tree?  It seems like there is no "added" security risk to this.

Just curious.

Thanks,

You can add one to Theater View, but not to the Standard View.

pressing F11 here performs a screen capture.

Is there any way to configure a different key to get to theatre mode?

Is there any plan of allowing people to do this from Standard View as well?  It's obviously not a security issue as someone else speculated, and it seems logical to offer this capability when in ANY view so that people who don't use Theater View can use it as well.  I actually DO use theater view for listenning from the other room -- i.e. I use a TV for navigating -- but I would be much more likely to use the "web" access from Standard View.

Thanks,

No, but try ctrl-1, ctrl-2, etc.
