Bug or Feature?
« on: March 29, 2006, 04:27:15 pm »

Stacks currently group regardless of capitalization (Beatles/beatles).  But when selecting a stack and viewing Tag Info in the Action Window, that property will show as <varies> if the capitalization is different, although the spelling is the same.  Is this new?  Is this by design?

It's by design.

People are picky about tags, so case matters.

For stacks, there's probably no need to be picky.

I think you're underestimating the truly massive importance of these doggone stacks.  Any possibility of unifying the notation?

I have to say I'd rather keep it the way it is.  It isn't that distracting for everyday use if the box in the Tag Info window shows "Varies" (I would generally only see that when I'm actively tagging files, and then I'd just fix it if I'm feeling anal).

However, I'd have to turn the Tiles View off if I suddenly had three-or-four choices for "the beatles":

beatles, the
Beatles, the
Beatles, The
beatles, The

I'm a consistency nut too, but only when it doesn't hamper functionality.   :)

EDIT:  I should add, the problem with wholesale ignoring of case in both windows is that it becomes very difficult to correct the case if you are feeling anal.  For example, fire up iTunes and try to change the case of an "Artist".  Because it ignores case, it doesn't see your change as a change and doesn't apply it to the tracks.  There's really no way to do it (which drives me bonkers on my Macs).

Backing me to the hilt, eh Glynor?  That'll teach me.

All my Fab Four songs are listed as "BEATLES", and commas and articles be darned.  Also on the "darned" list, substantially further down, Macs and itunes.

(I should say jgreen.  I hope you don't take me too seriously.  From my end, at least, it's all in good fun and I get a kick out of it).
