What do I need to do to be able to import .DIVX files?   I cannot seem to get it to work!

how are you trying to import them at the moment?

tools, import, and select the DIVX file type

also, tried to right click and IMPORT a .divx file.

most of my divx videos have the ending .avi and get imported.
also have some with the .divx ending and also get imported.

Must say that they were encoded with older divx versions. With the newest divx encoder some programs such as AutoGK failed and needed to be updated.

Check with gspot, if they are really divx!

GSpot says XviD ... and codec is installed.   Is there an issue with this?

I've actually had to rename .DIVX files to .AVI so MC would import them as videos and not just as files.  If I recall, the DivX files in question were a few episodes of the UK sitcom "The IT Crowd" from Bittorrent.  My MC file extensions were configured correctly as far as I know.  Renaming the files might be worth a try (and The IT Crowd is a pretty funny show).

XviD files should import fine (but again, you may have to rename them).

I'm fairly certain I can rename them and it will work fine, I'm worried about the fact that it can't do it automatically.    Same thing with my .TIVO files.

My system imports .DIVX files just fine.  Check under Tools --> Import Media and make sure that .DIVX is checked in the File Types checklist.  You can also use that tool to keep a list of commonly stored locations that MC will search for new files.

I don't see .TIVO in that list, but if MC can correctly play them I'm sure they'll add it if you ask.

Yes, DIVX IS checked in the Tools, Import Media settings.  Still no-go.

Hmmm... Well, I guess my test wasn't really accurate now that I think about it.  I used an XviD-compressed file (since I always use XviD it was easy to find one of them) and re-named it to ".divx".  Let me try to find a DivX compressed file and use that...

Actually, your test was EXACT... I am using XVID encoded files, that are named .divx.   Unfortunately, I cannot get them to import.  I can play them just fine, I used GSpot and saw nothing unusual about them.   Maybe we can compare notes later on the version info from GSpot and see if there is something special about my files?

Hmmm... That is odd.  It definitely works for me.  I also tested with a DivX 5 file I found lying around (I had trouble finding any DivX 6 stuff) and it still worked okay.  I can provide details of some of mine if you need them.

Had the same problem as drosoph.
Downloaded alltoavi from http://alltoavi.sourceforge.net/
Converted all my divx files using the divx codec in prog.

That did the trick for me!!
