Problems with Track Info Templates over Library Server
« on: April 07, 2006, 12:21:24 am »

Ever since sometime after build 162, none of my track info templates work when playing files over the library server.  None of the cover art, or tag information appears in any of the track info templates.  The templates work fine on the server computer, but do not work on the client side.  Is there a bug, or did I mess something up?

Make sure both sides are running the same version, and that both sides are running the latest version. Does cover art work? (Can you see cover art on the client?)

Well, i was having problems with it through all of the computers on my home network last night, and they were all running the same version.  I am now at work running the same version and accessing the server over the internet, and everything seems fine.  Let me test it at home again tonight.

I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong.  My computers at home are all running build 169.  Everthing seems to be working fine on the server side.  And as I said earlier, when I accessed the library at work, over the internet, everything worked fine.  But at home, the client computers are unable to show tag information in any of my track info templates.

The music plays fine.  And I am able to see the cover art and all other tag information elsewhere in the program, just not as part of the track info templates.  When I play songs from the default library on the computer, everything works great.  But over the server, it does not.

I checked out what was going on in the html of the track info templates.  When I opened the generated.html file while a song was playing from the default library on the computer, the html was correct.  For example, I get the following html which properly displays the cover art image:

Code: [Select]
<TD width="197" rowspan="4" align="left" valign="top"><img src="C:\Documents and Settings\Micah\My Documents\My Received Podcasts\Scoodlercast\Folder.jpg" name="Graphic1" align=left width=187 height=188 border=0></TD>
But when I change the library to the one from the server, i get the following html at the same place:

Code: [Select]
    <TD width="197" rowspan="4" align="left" valign="top"><img src="" name="Graphic1" align=left width=187 height=188 border=0></TD>
Notice that MC did not seem to pass along the source of the image.

Even more interesting, there are two bits of track information that do appear on each of my track info templates.  They are TRACKINFO_INSERT_PN_POSITION and TRACKINFO_INSERT_PN_TRACKS.  They show up fine over the server, but none of the other track information does.

Any thoughts on what is going on?

Okay, now I have something else weird to report.  I am on my laptop, which has two libraries configured in the library manager.  The first is "Default" which is, of course, the library that points to the local music on the laptop.  The second is "Desktop" which is the library on the server computer.  This is the library I have been using which has been giving me the track info problems.

While I was playing the desktop library on my laptop, I started playing around with some of the other settings that I don't use that often.  One of the settings was "party mode," which I turned on.  I continued playing the music from the server while party mode was on and nothing changed.  I was still having my track info problems as well.  But when I turned party mode off, the view changed from "playing now" to "audio" (which is my start up view).  I didnt think anything unusual happened until I went back to "playing now" and noticed my track info was working properly, even with the songs running through the server (the file names showed the ip address of the server).

But after further investigation, I realized that something had happened.  After I exited from "party mode" (which happened while I was playing a song from the server) MC created a new library in the library manager called "Default (1)" which was stored locally on the laptop.  The library itself was now local, but was pointing to songs on the server.

I deleted this library, and repeated the process.  The same thing occured.  Is this natural?  And why am I able to see the track info tag information on sever files in this instance, but not in the normal process of accessing server files?  I hope this makes some sense.

Micah,

Did you ever solve this problem?  I'm experiencing the exact same issue with build 191.

BUMP!!!

I have been having the exact same problem for ages, and it is driving me crazy!  I am now on version 11.1.200 and it happens on all of my clients.

Weirdly enough, visualizations that show track info - like Clean & Tidy II - display cover art and all info correctly.

Can somebody please help??
