Moving to another hard drive
« on: April 12, 2006, 10:23:30 pm »

A while back while partitioning my 2nd hard disk drive into 2 (d and e) i installed media center and added my music (from the e partition). It was that way for a long time. But soon im getting a new hardware setup. When i get my new gear my 2nd hard drive will be D not E. So in short how can i tell media center my music wont be on E anymore and is on D? I know i can rescan but that will re-add all my songs again and the playlists will be messed up. Im aware i can use windows to change the drive letter but this is a pain.
I know i can go into the library view and in the location field change the track location. But i have 5660 songs and that will take me years. Is there a quick way to do it?

Easy. Use the Library Tool: Find And Replace. Find: your old drive letter, Replace: your new drive letter. That's it.

It may be totally unecessary to say this, but just make sure you find/replace more than just the letter "D" -- i.e. you want to replace "D:\" with "E:\".

Wow i'm glad I read this post.

This find and replace is awesome what  a great way to move files\directories around... I was doing it either outside MC, or inside one by one as it would not let me select multiples... but find & replace takse care of all that.

Just when I'm getting comfortable with MC it surprises me with yet another great feature.
