Im wondering if someone can help me with Remote Desktop Connection setup...

I finally decided to run an audio wire from my PC to my stereo.  I have no problem setting up Remote Desktop Connection from my laptop to control Media Center (really the only reason I want to do this...)

What I am wondering if there is a way to have RDC control a secondary user.  I have read that it is possible to have multiple sessions open with RDC. 

If I do this, can I have the secondary user control the primary audio card (or a second one if I install one)?

I really like controlling MC with RDC and think I will continue to do this.  If I could find a way to do this without impacting the main user on my PC (so someone else could use the PC at the same time) I would be so happy!

Rabbit,

Only one user may be connected to the desktop at a time.  Remote Desktop connects to the system's Console, which is the monitor, keyboard and mouse.  It locks down that console upon login via Remote Desktop.

An additional thing I forgot to mention.  You might want to consider something like SlimServer (www.slimdevices.com) to serve your music, with control from any PC.  Its free,easy to install, and will allow you to listen to your music on any computer (via iTunes, SoftSqueeze, WinAmpor any MP3 stream-playing app), or via Slim's music boxes.  I use both SlimServer (home audio, remote listening)  and MC (local computer-based listening / cataloging).

That's not technically correct - if you are running any server edition of windows you can have multiple RDP connections at once.

For home edition or profession edition however you're right.

I have read several places about a registry hack which will allow multiple Remote Desktop connections in MCE 2005, which is what I am running.

Setting up this whole-house thing in a way that makes sense for me is just so tricky...  Too many choices.

If I could control one sound card from a second Remote Desktop Connection while another user uses the PC, I would definitely pursue that.

Beyond that, I guess I may set up a dedicated music/remote desktop server or look at similiar solutions (slimserver or sonos...) but I really really dont want to lose my library organization or the MC front-end...

Understood.  I actually had that clarification in my original response, but yanked it thinking that it was not relevant to the OP, as the OP was unlikely to be running the server edition, given the question.  Dooh.

The Max-n-Match dll game is not an avenue I choose to take or even consider, personally; too dicey.  I've seen countless knuckleheads replacing their core system software, only to find random crashes and instabilities later.

I hear ya.  If there's one thing I am, it's a knucklehead, through and through...  Sometimes I think nothing's too dumb for me to try once

Maybe I'll play a little with Slimserver.  I'd rather not dedicate a machine running 24/7 for a server which is why I keep trying to find an alternative to MC.  Reality is, I just love the MC interface and can't see anything else nearly as nice...

No dedicated server required.  I run my slimserver on my desktop system, where I also run my UPS management software, desktop apps, antivirus/antispyware, email client, ssh client, chat, network stats, and many other things, and an occasional deathmatch in Half-Life2.  To serve music, its very modest in requirements.

Thanks.  I did recognize that.  I also recognize that messing with my dll's is quite a knucklehead move.  And yet I may have tried it once or twice before...
