Future requests. Need admin comment please
« on: May 01, 2006, 06:02:07 am »

As starters I just have to say I love this program.

But there are a few things you just have to add. Numbered for importance.
Really appreciate if an administrator/programmer could comment the possibility, or progress of this changes.
Others are welcome to comment as well.

Here it goes:
1. Half star ratings (would make my smartlists with costum half rating "yes" and "no" MUCH easier)
2. The ability to share library. Like iTunes have.... (MC to MC and MC to iTunes would be great great great!)
3. More options for theater view control. Behaviour for space, enter etc.(play, add, replace playing now)
I know double click enters, space plays etc.... But it's just not enough.
4. View options for theater view (track list). Able to change track like title, title + artist,
title +artist + album etc. Only title tag just don't cut it!
5. The ability for MC to use "Artist" art. So artists could be shown in theater view and the cover art for their albums.
6. More options for theater view "view". Would like to set Albums as cover art view and the rest text only.
The possibility of ajusting this our self would be nice.

I apologise if there is any of this things that is already included that I have not spotted.

FWIW, I'm trying out my own custom field, rating 1-10.  I'm not sure if the half-step ratings are offering any earth-shaking insght to my collection.  But I can tell you the lack of a graphic makes scanning through a list less intuitive.  So I would love to see some sort of 1-10 graphic representation.  Half stars would be a great approach.  Spectrum-like panels might be cleaner, IMO.  Of course there'd be the whole question of which direction the panels would go in.

Not sure what you mean with spectrum-like panels, but it's not like stars is the only option.
A 10 star rating system would be pretty messy. Would just take up too much space. That's why I want the introduction of half stars. 5 positions are just to little for ppl who use ratings actively and don't delete music they noramlly will not listen to again.

I have tried with a number tag my self, but it is just to hard to see compared with graphics.

Today I use a 7 step rating system (boolean half rating tag with "yes" or "no" as options. I do that so I can use the star rating as well. I'm only using the costum tag for smartlists.

This is my rating (and thoughts behind it):

1     Crap. Never listen to again (mostly speech, interludes etc.)
2     Not necessary bad. But I will never listen to it again. But others might...
3     Not bad. Might want to listen to when I'm in a experimenting mood
3.5  Want to listen to again som day
4.0  Good music
4.5  Very good music.
5.0  A pearl in my collection

I could probably merge 1 and 2 stars. But I just can't make it down to only 5 steps....

Yea. For normal users that would probably be just fine. But I'm not normal. lol.
I ONLY collect full albums. Never a single file or singel. That's why I want to keep the first two stars.
Seperating the 2 stars helps my friends not to pick something awfull, but something they like, that I just don't.

But thanks anyway :)
Would it really be that hard to implement? And what about my other suggestions?

In a Binary World You Would Only Have Two Ratings

A "1" And A "0"

In the JRiver world You Have 0 to 5 Actually that's a total of 6 whole numbers

so your 3 times better off (thats 300%) in the JRiver world

I think in a binary world you'd only have 10 ratings.
