Short cut to access my movie list
« on: May 19, 2006, 11:03:28 pm »

Whenever I need to select a movie, I have to open approx 4 or 5 windows until I see my movie list.  Does anybody know a way to get to the movie list without so many steps?

Here is an example of what I mean.

or is there some reason why you need to use quick play?

Backlight, created by Beatnik62.

I've been trialling it for a while now, and it is a neat and tidy skin. I'm about to knock up a matching playingnow bar for it, as that opus one just doesn't look right at all does it!

well, there's a few options open to you.

the first that springs to mind is the album field.
For example, if you placed those 10 files on view in your screenshot into the same album, which of course would be the name of the movie, you'd be able to use the [album] field in a viewscheme pane, or file list column, and you would see all the movie files needed to view that movie.

I'm the complete reverse from you in that I don't have any vob files here to test with. If there's a reason why you cannot use the [album] field to group the files, then it's possible to knock a couple of things up based around the file paths. As that's more work though, let me know about the [album] thing first.

Take those 10 files you showed earlier...

select them all. right click. library tools > fill properties from filename > tick directory > enter [album] > untick filename > click OK

keep the files selected and fill out the genre field for them (action, adventure, comedy, whatever it may be)

Right click on video in the tree, choose 'add view scheme'

In step 1:
click the 'add' button > standard item > Genre > OK
click the 'add' button > standard item > Album > OK

Step 2:
Give it a name, 'Movies', perhaps?

Step 3:
Make your own choices here. If you tick 'honour parent scheme search strings' only files classed as video files in your library will be displayed, and if that works fine, you do not need to enter anything in step 4.

Click OK

How does that look?
If it's working for you, you can then go ahead and mass tag the rest of your movies and then enjoy your new movie based view scheme.
