AirTunes
« on: March 16, 2006, 06:20:51 pm »

I've done a bit of reading about AirTunes - It would seem that it wouldn't be too far a leap fro MC to support pushing to the AirPort Express.... Any Future Plans...  perhaps Integrated with Zones....

I know hacks like this are possible on the Macintosh side of things (see 'Airfoil' http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/), but I haven't seen anything like it for Windows.

I've been holding off on an upgrade to MC for a couple of versions--this would be a feature to push me over the edge!

Best,
Brad

I think this particular feature is one thing Apple has done really well in ITunes and would really love MC to support it as well...

I've really been struggling to find the solution for distributing music around my house that makes sense and I think Apple may have hit the nail on the head for my purposes...  But I cant use ITunes just for that...

The soon to be available Linksys Wireless-G Music Bridge will work with any media player. It may not be as elegant as the Air Tunes device but at least it's not limited to iTunes.

I bought one recently.  It works great.  Here's a thread about it:

Integrating Zones with AirPort Express would be fantastic! Instead of adding a bunch of sound cards, it would be great to just pick an Airport Express unit from a list and broadcast to it. Individual playlists to individual AirPorts or synced to all.

iTunes can't currently support playlist A going to AirPort A and playlist B going to AirPort B simultaneously. It is either the same playlist going to all, or to an individual AirPort.

The Linksys Wireless-G Music Bridge is too conspicuous and just looks like another piece of geek equipment while Apple's stuff could be concealed, even in a bathroom.

Any new news?

I can't switch to JRMedia Center until there's a way to use the Airport Express' I paid for. I run windows.
