Can't find email? Will I lose it all?
« on: June 13, 2003, 08:14:07 am »

My hard drive recently failed, but first gave me a warning that it would be happening soon.  I quickly began backing things up (something I had no real experience with), and then had a new hard drive put in.  When I tried to restore the license, I clicked the link to have my registration code emailed to me, but it says it can not find my email address.  I've had the same email for way longer than I've had MJ, and there's no way I would've registered with a different email.  So, after that, I thought maybe I would have that .rrg file that is supposed to be used for versions before version 8 (since the first version I ever had was 7).  I couldn't find it though.
So, I guess this means I have no choice but to pay $20 for MJ again if I want to use it, right?  I am currently using the free trial, but that will be expiring in about six days.  I can't even afford to spend $20 right now, and I'm afraid I'm gonna lose all the painstaking organization I've done in getting MJ and my music just how I like it all to be.  Am I right?  If I don't pay before the trial expires what will happen?  Does anyone know how I can get this thing to work without making me pay again?  I love the Media Jukebox program, but this is frustrating.
I hope this all made sense, I'm not real good at putting my thoughts into text sometimes.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Hi asomite,

JRiver does not re-issue version 7 licenses. Check the license faq for more info.

I've seen the license faq, and I only mentioned that I checked for the rrg file for version 7 because I wasn't able to get my registration code emailed to me.  Before my hard drive failure I had MJ 8.  Now all i can get is the trial of it because they say that my email can't be found to send me the code.

you may have bought MJ7 and upgraded to MJ8 i think that was a free upgrade for you.

if this is the case you would still need your MJ7 RRG file that the program told you to backup when you bought MJ7

Only Users Who Bought MJ8 And MC9 Can Restore Off The Restore Page.

So when I upgraded to MJ8, why didn't I get a registration code like the people who bought MJ8 rather than upgrading from 7?  It seems unfair that they can simply type in their email address and have the code sent to them and I have to pay $20 if I don't have the file backed-up?  People that upgraded to 8 rather than buying it after it became available should have been given the opportunity to submit their email address so that they could easily retrieve it later if needed rather than having to rely on some file that they were  told to back up a long time ago.
Also, could someone please answer the second part of my original question?

You must have your MJ7 RRG License File To Restore

If You Do Not Have Your License File You Should Have Backed Up You Must Buy MJ8 Or MC9

You state things that have clearly been stated, and no one ever answered the second part of my question.

Please be specific about what you don't understand.  Did you read the FAQ?

MJ7 is no longer for sale

And MJ8 is $24.98 not $20.00

Well thanks for bringing that to my attention KingSparta!!  I have to pay $25 while someone who's had MJ for a week can type in their email address and have the code sent to them.  How great it must be to be a new, inexperienced user of MJ!  Us long-time, loyal users get screwed.  This is crap! >:(

>> Loyal users get screwed.
When you bought MJ7 you were told to back up your MJ7 RRG file because it can not be replaced.

Maybe you did it to your self.

Take some responsibility for your own actions.

At any rate you have the information you requested.
