I would like to add style tag to my tracks. I don't mean genre.
I got genre and sub genre along with BMP and intensity allready, but there are often several different styles used by the same artist on different tracks. It would be too time consuming to tag my genre and rating on every track. I only tag genre/sub genre on artist and sometimes albums basis today..

I would love it if there was any kind of plugin to auto search and import styles to a tag. That would require a library with this information as well offcourse. Don't know if there is one at all.

With styles I mean things like groovy, hip, fast, slow, instrumental, romatic etc. etc.
With 1 or several of this words in a tag I could get music that sound good together

Anyone have some ideas?

The atagger plugin used to do it, but allmusic.com shut that wonderful plugin down

I've thought this might be a nice thing to have, but allmusic.com has like 30+ different styles, has anyone tried to make semi-workable playlists using them. That is of course until they stopped the plugin from working.

Were there any easier to put together if you did not have such information ?

We'd need to decide on a database to get the information from. Allmusic was good, but their stuff was copyrighted so any attempt to emulate the success of @l@n's atagger would likely meet the same fate.

If someone could write a plugin that searches style entries on mp3.com or even wikipedia (although there is no standard format to wiki pages) that may be the go...

Even better would be to expand the capabilities of YADB to include custom fields agreed upon by users of MC. We could then submit our own styles (and other fields for that matter) and have other users access them...

J River Could Do this Better If They Used There Digital Fingerprinting Or allowed 3rd Party Plug-ins To Use This Data, But the problem with That And I understand J Rivers Stance Is They Do Not Want The Way Fingerprints Are Generated To handed Over To Other Companies.

I have tried to find Ways To generate A Fingerprint Or From Another Vend-er, But The Cost Is Too High (For Me At least) And I Am Working On Limited Programing Knowledge.

I too would be interested in this but only if the styles were "compatible" with those at AMG.  I have so much of my tagging based upon the genres, styles, and moods as defined by AMG that I'm not willing to alter too much.

The only problem with the amg data is that they place data for genre, or sub genre if you like, under the styles section. That is a bit confusing.
 
I though styles would be something like, warm, hard, dark, melodic, upbeat, frentic, diabolic etc, etc, etc.
I have been studying genres for months now. And I have a beautifull system with genre and sub genres. Need something else than that. Something that got different data for each song. Otherwise I could just keep using my genres. The problem is that each song is different. And I ain't got the time to correct the genre for each song.

The mood section of amg is good, but it's to darn huge that you will probably never get much use of it. Would be hell to remember wich to search for or use when making a smartlist rule etc.

Nope. They don't.

That's why we need to make a new plugin and a database for the data. Prefferably with pre defined styles; to prevent mess. It would be so incredibly powerfull with a huge collection of track styles *drooling*.

If nobody else will go for the task I'll try to look into it one day. Probably need some help though.

Could make one pretty easily just altering KingSpartas source code for his lyriks finder plugin or similar. I think.... Just a thought

Gracenote should be a nice Database

then parse the side and extract the genre (in this case :"europeanpop").
