YADB not recognizing CD but its in freedb
« on: September 17, 2002, 05:54:08 am »

I think YADB is a great idea but it doesn't seem to be working very consistently.  Of 3 CD's I ripped yesterday, only one was recognized by YADB.  Going to the freedb.org site and searching there reveals that all 3 CD's are already in the database.  Any ideas?

I'm using MJ 8.0.37

Newer CD's?  Or CD's someone has entered in about the last 6 weeks?  We started with freedb data about then.

Recognized:
Tragically Hip - In Violet Light - 2002

Not recognized:
I Am Sam (Soundtrack) - 2001
Dave Matthews - Busted Stuff - 2002

When showing the CD contents in MJ, the Location field for the track says something like:

(0x672f4927):\Track01.cda

Is the hex number the Disc Id?  If so, this may be why its not working.  The above number is for the Busted Stuff CD, but freedb doesn't have an entry with this disc id (although there are 13 entries for it).

I doubt it makes any difference, but these CD's were all purchased in Canada.

They toke FreeDB data one day to built YADB.
This means that all the new entrys in FreeDB from after this day are not in YADB ,the same the other way.

Here is a tip if you do not find the cd in YADB.

Set MJ to use cdbb, when you get infos for the cd,set again MJ to use YADB and upload the infos in the YADB data.Like it we will have a large data to use[we= MJ users].

zevele:
I tried setting MJ to use CDDB, but I'm getting the following error:

Action: Accessing CDDB information
Status: CDDB: malformed command sent from server to client

Jim:
Judging from your response, Canadian CD's could be the problem?

They did YADB because of the fantastic problems many have with cddb.

I am not sure to remember, but FreeDb put the cd infos in 'cdplayer ini".In this case it means that if puting the cd in MJ,you get the infos you got from FreeDB.
From there ,upload infos to YADB

AND FORGET cddb

The "canada" issue is this: A CD may actually be represented by a bunch of different CDs in the database, and so "Tragically Hip" may be there, but not the Canadian pressing.

Zevele's idea is good.

Not sure, but the only raison a cd from Canada,Mexique,or other places desrve a special entry is if there is extra tracks not on the others pressings.
Well it has to be like it,but there is some mess in all this datas,
cddb2 the worst

Here a tip concerning some europeens cds ,edition of old records.

Many europeens labels, first of all german Repertoire and Line labels put extra tracks when they press a 60",70" record.
This unlike the US labels who do a plain reedition without extra tracks[Yes i know that Rhino and Sundazed put load of extra tracks, but i speak as a rule].

You get this cds under artist\album\ \english.
Accepting... \english will give you infos for all tracks
Accepting the plain album name will give you no info about the extra tracks.

Look like '\english' means europeen

Toddler, you may try to get infos with Windows MediaPlayer. If a miracle happens and you get infos, you will get them in MJ as well.

In this case ,do not forget to upload infos to YADB

zevele:
I loaded the CD's up with Windows Media Player and it was able to recognize/download the song titles.  Alas, it does not update cdplayer.ini as suggested, where does it store this information?

I loaded up MJ after playing each CD in Windows Media Player and the CD's still are not recognized.  Apparently wherever Media player is storing the info isn't read by MJ.  Bummer.

Jim:
You're closer to Canada than I am!  My wife and I currently live in Quito, Ecuador.

You are rigth concerning WMP.In an other hand i'am sure i got it [WMP infos working in MJ].Maybe it was with WMP9.Or maybe i mix with another player....and i do not know where WMP put it.

Sometimes you are feed up with this jungle.Need a list of programs who works in a logic and polite way to the user.
Do not see Windows in this list, but far behind Real and not worst than some McAffee and Norton............

Look like you have to type the infos and upload to YADB.Like it you will get allways the infos when playing the cd.

If some KingSparta or Zevele do not delete the entry when cleaning the double one........

If you want to upload yourself the infos:

Do like changing tags from properties.
Put album name on all songs at once, the same for artist name.
You have to put song names one by one.

Not a funny thing to do,but more easy for an english speaking person than for a franco\hebrew\ more or less english one....
