I have been using MC for some time now.  In the past 3 months I have been experiencing library corruption.  I think it has to do with syncing my ipod and nano but am unsure.  Here is what is happening:

- files are disappearing
- tags are getting screwed up and shifted - for example, all of the tags for an album get shifted by one - so the tag for song #2 - with all of #2's info, is now attached to #1's file.  Also, this is happening across artists, where 2 or 3 songs for one artist refer to the file of another, and vise versa.
- goofy things are happeing with cover art - basically it is dissapearing

Is this just me?  This product has been so stable for me for so long, I am at a loss.  The biggest problem is that it is so darn time consuming to fix all of these errors over a 20,000 song library.  At least MC's awesome views and filters makes it so easy to find the issues.

Have you made any backups of your library?  Have you tried restoring?

Can you copy your system info from MC Help and paste it here?

I have never made a backup of the library.  Probably dumb but it is what it is.

Here's a few more things that are happening:

- songs are "disappearing" out of media center.  So in one album, track #7 is just gone.  Go to the windows folder, its there.  Do a media import on the folder - it does not re-import that file.
- folder art (saved as folder.jpg) is being replaced by 1k x 1k white squares.
- again info is just getting all jumbled - here's an example

It pasted kind of jumbled, but the first 3 tracks are all messed up - these were accurate a few days ago.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Try restoring an older library.  MC makes automatic backups.  But you may have to start over by clearing your library and reimporting if that doesn't work.

ok - but why is this happening.  It happened once and I fixed it and now its happened again.

Have you experienced OS (or MC) crashes?

I think MC 11.1 had a problem that could lead to library corruption on abnormal termination. This problem should be fixed in the recent builds. I have not seen it happening anymore.

Also, give MC a few seconds after closing the program before switching off anything else. I have noticed that MC always closes background tasks for about 10-15 seconds after the main GUI has disappeared from sight.
