I was trying to look at my entire audio library from a Reply Gain perspective. So I sorted the view according to the Reply Gain field. I obtained a list with the following (odd) ordering:

•   Negative values (increasing from -20.00 dB to -0.01 dB)
•   Blank values
•   Positive values (increasing from 0.00 dB to 12.00 dB)

What collating sequence is used when sorting by a numeric field, like Replay Gain? Space or (null) should be first or last, not in the middle. Can it depend upon national settings? Decimal values here are displayed using a comma "," as a separator, not a period ".". The operating system is Windows XP SP2 in Italian, and national settings are Italian.

My sort options (Tools > Options > Sort > Sorting) have "Sort empty strings last" checked. If I uncheck that option, I get the same results.

I'm going to hazard a guess and say that blanks are being sorted as zeroes in this case.

Null values, both strings and numbers, should be treated differently from spaces and zero numeric values.

I agree.

But out of curiosity, is there some reason you don't just analyze the files with the blank RG and be done with it?
