Copy to clipboard from a pane
« on: July 08, 2006, 02:21:14 am »

3. Changed: Clipboard "Paste" is now implemented in the tree.
Waiting for this to work with panes as well :)

A typical example is when comparing a pane between 2 libraries. If paste worked with panes, it's possible to
- load up library#1, switch to a  album viewscheme that had only one pane, albums (say). Copy paste from panes to excel.
- load up library #2 and do the same with an adjacent column in excel.
- scroll in excel and find the missing item. Very quick and easy.

Otherwise need to add a smartlist with limit of 1 track/album then copy paste from the details view, elliminate unnecessary columns, then repeat the same ith the library #2

and only then be able to perform the compare.

I could use a split view but then it's not possible to have an alternate columns config for it since both split views are in sync with each other. In any case all workarounds are more complicated than if it were possible to simply copy+paste from a pane.

You can drag-n-drop onto a pane value to do tagging.

However, "Paste" (which is really just drag-n-drop) isn't implemented because panes switch what you were looking at as soon as you pick an item to paste to.

i was referring to copying *from* a pane to elsewhere rather than onto.

just the column of text as you can with the details view currently.

*changed topic to be more meaningful
