extracting cover art from mp3 files

Hello folks,
I searched in the forum but did not find my answer.
I have mp3 files that have album art stored in them ( via itunes drag and drop )
Is there a way to extract the album art in a separate file (like cover.jpg) , but also leaving the cover data in the mp3 file?
