error on closing MC
« on: July 17, 2006, 04:36:49 pm »

When I close MC11 (build 188), about 80% of the time I get the standatrd Windows XP error that brings up the standard dialog box stating "Media Center has encountered a problem and needs to close..."  The box comes up basically after MC has closed, i.e. I don't have MC on the taskbar or anywhere else.  Most of the time, the restart of MC brings up the MC dialog that says it detected an improper shutdown and gives me recommendations, but this does not happen every time I start MC after getting the error!?!  I have tried uninstalling/reinstall and it doesn't really help.  Also, I can't find a pattern--if I try to open MC and wait a few seconds to close to test it, it might do it 2 times and then not give the error the next time.  I went to the debug/show technical window from the XP error dialog, and this is what was there:

AppName: media center.exe    AppVer: 11.1.188.0    ModName: bmnet.dll
ModVer: 2.1.2.3101    Offset: 0000ffb7

I have an ATI AIW, so I checked that thread, but all was set according to spec.

Also, here's my info:

Are you running any third party plug-ins?

What kind of files are you playing?

No 3rd party plugins are installed, and my music collection is a straightforward collection of mp3s, about 11 GB, all at 128kbps.  Right now I don't even have any images or video--I'm going to add them later.

The only other factor would be that I manually sync an iPod mini, possibly 1st gen.  It syncs fine, and I have no problems while using MC, only on exiting sometimes.

Is the library stored on a local internal hard disk drive?

Is the iPod connected when it happens?

Library is on a local hard drive, and iPod is sometimes connected, sometimes not.  I went and looked up bmnet.dll on the internet and found it to be an LSP related dll.  I have Cingular Connection Manager, which I don't need now, so I will uninstall and see if that helps.
