hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150
« on: July 21, 2006, 10:22:29 am »

I have installed hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150  as the TV tuner card. But I seem that I cannot config the hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 remote controller to use in the media center. Can anyone assist.

Thanks

Hi,

Which infared receiver are you using and are you sure it is supported by MC?

The IR receiver comes together with the WinTV-PVR-150 as a package.

I'm curious to know how well the haupphage works too, i recall reading it does its encoding & decoding all in hardware.

Hi,

I am not at home so I do not have access to MC help to see which IR receivers are supported.  I checked the help files linked on the MC home page, which I suspect are out of date, and the hauppauge IR receiver is not listed as a supported receiver.  Check out the help files of your version and see if it has been added.  If it is not supported then I am guessing that you will not get it to work.

The hauppuage does indeed do hardware encoding.  CPU usage while encoding is pretty much zero.  The 150 does no decoding whatsoever!  Only the hauppauge 350 is capable of both encoding and decoding.  From all the bad stuff I have read about the 350 I would stay away from it.

I use the hauppauge dual tuner pvr500mce myself (just two 150's on the same card) and I have been very happy with it.

Hi again,

I just noticed that there is a plugin available for download for the USBUIRT.  If you are not averse to dropping a few more bucks I would get one.  I have two (one on each HTPC) and they are some of the best HTPC goodies I have ever bought.  Highly recommended.  And no, I am not affiliated with them in any way. :)

Interesting reading about what a USBIRT actually is.

How do you find the response time with it ?

Hi,

I use it as an IR receiver (as opposed to transmitter) with sagetv.  The response is instant.  It is no different than using a remote with a set top box.

I get myself the USBIRT receiver for testing. The very easy to setup.
But the response between the remote controller , USBIRT and media center seem a bit slow. I uses the threater view. The learning curve for a user might be a bit steep.

I uses the Hauppauge remote to test with IBM pentium 4 3.0 with 512 MB ram.

I might change to a simpler remote controller.
