Hauppauge WinTV 878/9 WDM problems
« on: July 25, 2006, 09:30:52 am »

Hi everyone!

Slight problem I have reguarding my WinTV PCI card and Media Center 11.
When i click on the options button to set up the TV channels for the tuner; I get a window appear saying:

"You need to have Hauppauge Components on your computer to play TV using Media Center.
Would you like to have it automatically downloaded and installed?"

I select yes. This then brings up 2 windows, one, and information box telling me it has:

"Failed to connect to server.
Reason: Not found
URL: http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/mj_data/components/hauppaugeTV.mjp"

The other box is stating that Media Player:

"Failed to play TV. (unknown error)"

I have been on the Hauppauge website and downloaded both the Win2k application and the latest "3.49 WDM" Drivers. The card does work using the Hauppuage application.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. It has taken me a while to finally find a media player that supports quite an old TV card like mine.
Apologies if this problem has been brought up before, although i have checked similar threads - I did not have the time to check all 3 pages of topics.

Thanks in advance, Ad  :)

Try re-installing the latest WDM driver from Hauppauge. The error you got (needing to download Hauppauge component) occurs only when the program could not load WDM driver properly and it "thinks" WinTV device is running with old non-WDM driver.

If you still have the problem after re-installing the drivers, send me a log file by email. My address is yaobing at jriver dot com

By the way, I deleted the other thread you posted which duplicates this one.

Thanks, that seems to have fixed the problem  :D
Just for future reference, how do I access the log file, where is it stored?

And thankyou for cleaning up my mistaken previous post.

Help -> Configure Debug Logging...

Under Logging Options, check "Output to a log file"
Under Types of events to log, check all that apply (for example check "TV" for logging TV problems).

The log file can be viewed by clicking one of the links. The file is located at
"C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\J River\Media Center 11\Log.txt"
