Nice work! I saw you got the semicolon list bug in Tag sorted out, thanks!

Of course, I found something else. Ever since I got Tag to work, I was bothered that the whole Tag window changed your cursor to "pointing hand", meaning that you could trigger something everywhere in the window. Which isn't correct. If you have a space that doesn't do anything, you should show the arrow, not 'hand'.

But then I noticed that if you move the mouse from the main window to Tag without hovering any clickabe item, the pointer stayed arrowy (actually, if you slowly move it over the divider list, you get the <--> pointer instead).

So it's not a designer error, it's a bug! :)

Nearest monitor...could you please explain? I have never in my 34 old life seen this term in the computer business :) Is this gonna confuse people...
- Nearest monitor, aha the one with the shortest cable!
- No stupid! It's the TV, I'm sitting far closer to it than the computer!

I'm guessing it means to basically use whichever monitor the main UI of MC is displaying on. So if you have MC on monitor 1 and go to Display View, it will open on Monitor 1, move MC's GUI to monitor 2, and Display View will open there, without you having to manually make that change.

Am I right?

======================
split views
When moving between views, the tree is not updating its selection to reflect the new location.

======================
Action Window
keywords don't apply correctly when applied to multiple file selections. shows best on files with existing keywords.

better reproduction info:
list some files without keywords and select one, open the keywords list in the tag window, tick a tag.
keep the tag window open.
go back to the file list, hold down ctrl and select another file. there should now be two files selected.
back in the action window, tick another keyword. the expected result is one file with one keyword, and one with two keywords.
select each file in turn to view their respective keywords and you should see what I mean.

--------------

Zoom in on a list type field in the Tag window and tick a tag, keep the selection, and use the panes to add a new tag (I added a new keyword).
That action clears the tick from the tag in the action window. Also, if there's a tick in a list type field that's not been applied, a change in audio track is clearing the tick.

--------------

After working inside the tag window, then moving the mouse over the file list, the scroll wheel will not work untill the list is clicked on, or scrolled manually via the scroll bar.

--------------

Zoom in on a list type field, [people], for example, and select an image in the list. Use the cursor keys to move selection to another image. The file list has now lost focus.

--------------

.avi files are not being aquired from the camera. (Discuss?)

======================
slideshow playback
stretch small images, no
scale large images, yes
5 second delay,
no effects
transitions enabled (all of 'em)
caption: if(isempty([caption]),if(isempty([events]),if(isempty([places]),[subject],[places]),[events]),[caption]) (formatdate([date,0],dd MMMM yyyy))

After just a few images, the process becomes:
display image with caption
change caption to that of the next image
start transition > show next image

the problem is that the time between the caption changing, and the new image showing gets longer, giving the slideshow a rather disjointed feel, not unlike trying to watch a movie with out-of-sync audio

======================
expression based fields
Is this expected behaviour?
It has become markedly slower since build 47.
This has speeded up again, but is still noticeably slower. About six seconds from last click to tick on multiple clicks.

======================
thumbnails..
Place the cursor on the bottom toolbar. If there is thumbnail text just out of view, ie, behind the toolbar, the thumbnail fades out to reveal its play tag stuff.
Place another application window on top of MC, and notice that even though it's not the active window, MC is still tracking and reacting to the cursor position.

======================
extended desktop
The TV is the secondary display device, and in the display setup, it's configured to the right of the monitor. MC's tooltips do not detect the right edge of the monitors' display area and instead, display out of view in the extended desktop area.

The context menus know where the edge is, and display to the left if there's not enough room to the right. Hopefully tooltips can be given the same 'awareness'.

======================
Command line stuff
mc12.exe "/playreplace TREEPATH=Playlists\viewscheme groups\Logitech\preset1"

The string above works fine if MC is running. If MC is closed, the string launches MC, but does nothing else.
v11.1 would launch and begin playback.

======================
3D visualisations ~ curious to know if anyone else sees this?
3D vizualisations are only running @ 2 fps, and make MC slow to respond. This is running MC maximised on a 1680 x 1050 screen. If I hide the tree and the file list it drops to zero fps and the pc becomes unuseable.

Setting the application window to 800 x 600, hiding the tree and the filelist, framerate is still only 4 fps. This makes 3D pong unplayable :p

(Nvidia GForce FX 5900XT running on the latest 91.31 forceware drivers)

======================
display view/taskbar issue
Note: My taskbar is along the bottom of the screen, double height..

Display view opens behind the taskbar. It requires a click on the taskbar, then a click on the disply, to bring the display to the front of the taskbar.
I thought this was fixed, but it's not. Try it with some music playing too.

======================
Display View: (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=34771.0)
When in display view, images are presented fullscreen with the 'display frame' laid over the top of the image. The display bar across the top can often obscure essential details in the image, also, the bottom edge of the display frame is obscuring the OSD caption.

When using two split views, activate the second view and launch display view (by double clicking an image?). When returning to standard view, focus has switched to the other view in the split.

======================
Tree Stuff:
Any root view scheme alphabetically lower than 'audio' can still displace the 'tabs' from their top-level resting place. <--- You fixed this? looks much better now
not fixed. placement now differs depending upon which icon is chosen for the viewscheme. "scheme" achieves the desired result. choosing any other wrecks the tree.

These are still a problem, especially the Playing Now thing..
Playing Now is also still wandering around within the tree window as things are expanded/collapsed

Finding it hard to train myself that the expansion arrows for top level tree nodes are on the right. As you widen the tree, the expanders move further and further
away from their relative text items, then, after expanding, subsequent expanders are to the left of their text items. Maybe I'll get used to it, but atm, it doesn't
make drilling around in the tree a very smooth experience.

I'm still not getting on well with the tree in its current form.

Wishes
======================
  • An "Apply" button for the 'Edit/Add View Scheme' dialogue. (Discuss?)
  • .tif file tag reading at a minimum, writing would be nice too if possible (Discuss?)
  • the ability to set a library field to be used as a caption for images and/or thumbnails when using the 'send to > web/ftp > create html' tool
  • Expressions in the 'base path' field of the rename from props tool. (Discuss?)
  • I would like to be able to use a date expression in the aquire images general "path" option, and for the scanner, I'd like to be able to setup some incremental file naming rule
  • Logitech mouse support (Discuss?)
  • when playing both audio and images, the dislay's context menu has "send to... (currently playing track)" would love to see "send to... (currently displayed image)" on there too.
  • Could we get a "loop slideshow" option in the image playback settings? If that's possible, could we also have access to the setting when right-click on a slideshow display? This would help greatly with image playcounts being messed up when absent-mindedly left playing in the display window.
--------------------
Bookmarks. Thank you. keeping this in for reference:--> (Discuss?)
--------------------

======================
Irritations
======================
  • tools > options > library > library fields:
    After adding a library field, does it have to close the library fields and send us back to the default library options page like it does? this fine if we're only adding a single field, but is a pain if we want to add more, or perhaps edit another.
  • When tagging images with music playing, using a 12 pane viewscheme, the panes keep re-adjusting themselves widthwise, often on track change. I've lost count of the times I've lined up a click to tag, only to have the pane move away from under the mouse, like some kind of JL Software practical joke software!!
  • When using a panes view to tag images, are the fade-in play | tag options and the rotating statistics really necessary? They are so very annoying in this scenario. (Discuss?)
  • After viewing full-screen on second monitor (TV), I find it takes a fair bit of clicking around to get standard view back onto the primary monitor. ctrl + 1 does not do the job. (under review, still not played with the nearest monitor stuff)
  • list-type and standard type panes behave very differently when in tagging mode. this is at best, counter-intuitive, and at worst, plain confusing. (Discuss?)

- Nearest monitor, aha the one with the shortest cable!

Exactly.  We send an electric signal to the monitor and measure how long it takes to return.

This all started when we were trying to verify the famous Michelson Morley experiment using Media Center and two monitors.  Otto is still tallying the results.

- Open tag action pane and edit a semi column delimited field (eg people)
- Leave tag pane open on semi columns delimited field selected for editing
- In the list pane (where your files are listed), edit a field (eg Name) by clicking on it with the left mouse button (do not use F2)
- The focus of the edited field dissapears directly
- Also when you do manage to edit the field ,change a value, tab to the next field, focus dissapears

In Theater view, my selected Track info display dissapears:

- Make sure you have some files already in playing now and MC is not playing
- Switch to theater view
- Navigate to playing now
- Click enter on whatever file to start playing

The track info will dissapear now

Cool, thanks

Can this be added to the search menu for favorite searches?

I also notice how there is a 'tag' icon for the toolbar, which is nice, can there be a icon added for the AW playing now list like there is for the fullsize playing now on the toolbar?

Translated texts under the Thumbnails are too long.

1 = "Play"
2 = "Tag"
3 = "Display" but has no Function ?

A solution would be alternative text strings for the Thumbnails Text, now goes this not because the Menu texts would be concerned.

been broken still broken

if you play a file in mc12 and then try to convert it MC12 will make endless duplicates of the file every time you try to convert it.

Bug:

Cannot play two consecutive slide shows!

If I start an image slide show and after a few slides stop it, it's not possible to start another slide show. MC12 simply hangs and it needs to be restarted!

Right-clicking DVD volume under "drives and devices" to play a DVD.  If I then stop playback using the main start/stop/pause button at the top, the DVD can no longer be accessed, and returns an error dialogue :  ". . make sure that the pathnames are correct . . etc".

Reinstalling 12.0.50 does NOT have this issue.  Going back to 12.0.52 and the issue REAPPEARS.

1.  Alt-1 Goes to Start? should this be updated to reflect new design
2.  Using [disc #] in thumbnail text does not work
http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=discgoneuj4.png

(In that view I could use [Name] which works(Which I still believe is wrong), but
the effect is global anyhow, where ever you use [disc #] nothing comes up?)
3. There's no hover state for the close button in Frame Windows
4. The following causes a button to remain in the mouse down state even tho the mouse button is no longer down in a Frame Window:
> Click Button
> Move mouse away from button without releasing click
> Once away from button release click
5.  In Display view when Maximized there is no minimize button.
When in windowed display view there is a minimize button,
surely either it has one or it doesn't?
6. When using a skin with the transparent effect,
if a tooltip is showing for something like volume control
or trackposition it causes a dizzy effect when sliding...
7. When Message Boxes come up the State of buttons is already
in the mouse over state, even though the mouse has never gone over them.
8. Images with EXIF rotate information cannot be resized.
MC says it's skipping them....
