Why can't I import files from my iPOD?

I don't understand why I am not able to import mp3 and M4a files from my iPOD.  I need to transfer them back to my library but for some reason they won't import.  How do I transfer the files in another manner?  I wonder why this isn't working...

If you drag the tracks from inside of MC to a folder on your computer, the files will be copied there.  Keep in mind that filenames get truncated due to length restrictions on the iPod so they won't come out with the exact same name they went in with.
