Where The Heck Is Split View?--SOLVED!
« on: August 23, 2006, 10:59:30 am »

I haven't used split views with 12x and now I can't find them.  I've got split views enabled under features, yet there is no sign of them.  Are they with the Download Manager?

View > Split Views > Show 2 Views works for me.

I have no such option showing under the view menu header, where they used to be.  All I show there is standard view/mini view/display view.  I have split view enabled under "features" (although not theater view).

FWIW, I have no "web media" access menu, either.

Neither did I,

I clicked on View Standard View.

Then View and I saw the rest of the options.

Doesn't look like it goes back to Standard view from Mini propperly

By design, menus are simplified when in Mini View.  I think this makes sense -- there's 0 views in Mini View, so why show a split view menu?  It's the same reason we get rid of Edit and Help.

It's not returning to standard view menu afterwards.

I cannot reproduce the problem. I tried switching between the Standard View (Noire skin) and several different Mini skins & Display View. (12.0.59)

I'm starting to think that it was the fault of Zone Alarm firewall.  If Gamer's using it that would clinch it for me.  I looked in the firewall settings and ZA was inspecting interactions between MC and "other programs" (or processes), possibly slowing down or freezing things.  Since I set ZA to give MC carte blanche program interaction I have not seen the problem.

We hear too many strange things like this.  It could be the same reason you were seeing that "deep sleep" you described.

Okay, let's say that it is the "fault" of Zone Alarm and/or similar.  There's an awful lot of that stuff out there--does that mean that all of us just have to be patient?  Selecting "audio" from a rest state showing the "no internet" page took the same amount of time as loading the program fresh--about 25 seconds.

Sorry if I sounded crotchety.  Programs that use system-wide hooks have caused us (and our users) a lot of grief in the past.

I think something is wrong either with your system, your library, or with MC.

As a comparison, starting MC or switching library views takes less than half a second with the machine I'm on now.

Try disabling extra stuff. (both in MC and outside)  Posting a log of the startup might help us.

Thanks.

Nope ZA is NOT the culprit.

2 Different computers. Neither have ZA and I can re produce at will

Mega View - Mini View - Use the Return To Mega View (Right Click) then use the View drop down....
I only have 3 options untill I again choose View Standard View.

Let me know if I can give you any other info

Nope, still can't reproduce it here, even following those steps.

What mini-skin are you using? There is no right click menu when you're using Slim, so I switched to a couple of the other mini-skins. I found the right click menu and the Return To Standard View menu item, but even then my View menu is complete when I return to Standard View.

Doof--
We're talking about the bog-standard mini that comes with the program, straight outta the jriver factory.

Matt--

Pullease!  You (and the rest of you guys) are writing the best media manager/playback program on the planet.  I just want you to know that, in the words of the reverend Desmond Tutu, it is "highly imperfect".  IMO, you've gone a bridge too far with the shut down/sleep thing.

For what it's worth, I can't reproduce this either. This part works perfectly for me. OTOH I've got some other issues I'd like to talk about..... ;)

My Work CPU has Playing Now - My 2nd home computer is stock.
Both running 12.059

Get this.... If I close MC, Open MC it opens in Mega. If I click View, I only have 3 items.
If from there I click Standard, I can click from Mega to Mini usually without problems.

But if I close then open, there are only 3 items.

Work is a P3 2.8 ish

This is not only on 59... My other cpu is also a 3400+ and running .56

Soon as I start it, goto view, I have to click standard view before I see the goodies.

Found it.  Using start in "Last Exit" mode causes the strangeness.

The deep sleep jgreen is seeing is still a mystery, but perhaps another thread would be best for that.

Yeah, I use "Last Exit" view.  Thanks for tracking it down, Matt.  I'll try to get more details about slow recovery issues and start a new thread.
