Mouse-Over tooltip - can I change it?

I used to have a mouse-over tooltip with some decent info ... had the full filename .. etc .

And, at the bottom of the screen, the info bar had the entire filename ...

This info is very useful to me ... any way to modify what is shown on tooltips and in the info bar for selected files?
